Do you have eng light on and what mileage do you have and have you ever replaced the timing belt on it?
Gas pedal wont go down once in gear
I would check a few things. first the engine mounts. make sure the engine isn't rocking over. second cruise control ? if it has cruise control I would unhook the cable to the throttle from the cruise control and see if that was the issue. some times the control box will pull in deceleration mode and stick there. also the decelerator valve on the throttle body may be defective.
Cranks but wont fire up
could be many things. more information would be helpful.
could be simple as tps to as complex as broken timing belt.
does it crank as it always did? does it spin over real fast like it has no spark plugs? these answers will help to pin point where to start.
1st stater just froze 2nd starter only worked for 2 starts
check the wiring to the engine and starter. they cluster the ground wires to the back of the engine. I also noticed they use a thin gauged wire from the battery to the ground on the engine, I have replaced this ground cable with a heavy gauged one and solved many issues with charging and starting .Also check the battery condition to make sure it have enough power to start the car.
Oil leaking out fast
the neon 4 cyl engine uses a 2 piece block, the common issue is the seals where the crank saddle (lower block section) mates up with the upper block fails. this is not a DIY fix unless you are an engine builder. not a simple or cheap fix. consult a reputable mechanic to fix this issue.
Have a 98 neon that
check to make sure the lower rad hose isn't collapsing when engine is reved
It has a misfire ,we changed the plugs and the coil pack and wires still has a misfire what else could it be
Gas or compression. Check the injector circuit on 1 and 3. Are they pulsing, to put gas in the cylinders? Do a compression test to rule out loss of compression as cause for the misfire.
Kind of odd it would be 1 and 3, but that is one right after the other in the firing order of 1-3-4-2...so, you have a single coil? So you have a distributor-examine closely the distributor cap and rotor if those were not changed too, with the plugs and wires. Look for damage, little black tracks that indicate shorting of the spark, maybe damage at the electrode tips on the inside of cap on 1 and 3 plug wire towers. Most people change the cap and rotor when doing the plugs and plug wires.
Just a possibility also, that the injector ground wires for 1 and 3 might share the same ground. That is to say, they might splice together before going to the computer where the computer internally grounds injector circuits to cause pulsing. Well, those are my thoughts, good luck. And let me know what you find, always interested.
