This does not make any sense. If power is being delivered to the bulb and the bulb filament is not open it should work provided there is a good ground. Check out wiring and/or connections.

You have to take out the entire back lights, Inside the trunk pull back the material and unscrew those plastic lugs. (Some years have lights on trunk when opened or under) But in my 01 the lights come up with the trunk. Remove those lugs. Take off the entire rear light assembly. You'll have easy access to the License plate bulbs. Sounds complicated but it takes a total of 10 minutes total. While your at it wash the area where the lights were on. A coat of wax left on will keep the water, moisture from rotting the surfaces. Make sure your seals are good and re-install. If the bolts are rusting put a small amount of grease on them. (Prior to re-installation of course)

Jack up the car and remove the wgeel. Remove the two bolts holding the brake caliber on. Unplug the sensor lead. Remove the axle nut with the appropriatesized socket (usually 31 or 32 mm...can be rented at most chain stores). Slide axle out . Remove 3 bolts holding hub on. You can watch just about any wheel hub replacement video on YouTube and get a good idea of the procedure as all of them are similar. Reassembly is the reverse.

have the injectors checked for good tips and correct operation

Well, yes and no.
If the red oil pressure light comes on, yes the engine could stop running. You could actually lose oil pressure, or the switch could fail.
A "change oil" notice would not cause the engine to stop.
