2005 Dodge Durango - Page 5 Questions & Answers
2005 dodge durango. This just started last week. Whats happening is my battery is always dead, click click click (starter). it always has juice to run radio and stuff like that when i turn key. Takes
A few simple tests and what the results mean.
Obtain a voltmeter that will allow you to read up to about 16-17 volts DC.
1. Start vehicle, attach voltmeter to battery (red to +) (black to -) and read voltage. *Note: you are reading the output of the alternator with it running.
If Voltage is about 14-15v, alternator is good. If less than 14v, or very high 16+v, likely alternator(or voltage regulator) is not working properly. Have alternator checked at local auto parts place, replacement may be necessary.
If voltage is in 14-15v range alternator is working properly. Battery replacement is next logical problem, it can can be tested at the local auto parts store as well.
**If a charging system is good, and battery is good, check battery cables. Bypass battery cables by connecting battery directly to starter with jumper cables. If car starts with battery cables connected and not when disconnected, replace battery cables.
2. A charged battery will read at about 13.5 v while engine is turned off, but it does indicate if a battery will hold a charge.
Best of luck resolving this problem.
My 2005 Dodge Durango is overheating
Sounds to me like your radiator is clogged. You can either take it out and go to a shop and have them try to clean it out or just buy another one
2005 dodge durango it changes into 4lo by itself
This problem and similar ones are being reported on a daily basis. Dodge reports that the problem lies with the transfer case motor. I suggest that you have the dealer take a look since this is probably a fix that will be done on Chrysler's nickel.

05 dodge durango 5.7 hemi. When I step on gas to accelerate I hear a loud sweaking sound. It just started tonight what could it be.
Hi Mary:
Squeaks from the engine area will be coming from moving non-lubricated parts.
Try checking:
- Serpentine belt. These will squeak like crazy if they have anti-freeze on them.
- Water pump. They have a bushing with a seal. Even if the seal is still not leaking, the bushing can be worn and will make some noise.
- Alternator, power steering pump, air conditioning pump can all have similar broblems with bearings.
MECHANICS TRICK! Use a stethescope to listen near the part you're checking. This is a mechanics stethescope, not the doctors kind. I just use a 2 ft long piece of 1/2" wood dowell. Hold it at one end with my thumb over the end, put my thumb against my ear, and touch the part that I'm checking. Obviously, the motor has to be running while you do this, so STAY SAFE! Do not let the dowell touch any moving parts. No kidding. Your motor can talk to you.
