2005 ford escape wont move in any gear, linkage is

These two groups of problems are caused by the same faults in your transmission, so whichever your car is doing, the following applies.

Is your fluid level correct?

It's important to check your transmission fluid at least twice a year. Not only can a low fluid level cause your car to shift poorly, it can eventually lead to transmission damage, and a costly repair. If your car seems to be losing fluid on a regular basis, you may have a leak.

Is your transmission leaking?

Checking for leaks isn't as trying as it may seem. The transmission is a closed system, so there are only a few places that can spring a leak. Unless it's been changed to a non-dyed fluid, your car will have red transmission fluid. Here are a few places to check for leaks:
  • At the filler tube base.
  • At the drain hole underneath the transmission.
  • Between the transmission and the engine.
  • At the selector shaft - the rod that connects your gear shift to the transmission.
  • Speed sensor mounting point. This will either be your cable screwing into the transmission housing or an electronic sensor bolted to the housing.
  • The radiator. If your car has a transmission cooler, it's possible that a leak will cause transmission fluid to leak into the radiator fluid. They don't mix well, so you'll see it floating around in there.
Is your filter clogged?
Your transmission's filter is vital to its performance. If you haven't replaced your filter in a while (or ever for a lot of us), be sure to do this before you start talking about rebuilds or replacements.

Most transmission problems can't be fixed by the average do-it-yourselfer. There are just too many specialized tools and pieces of equipment you'll need, and buying this expensive gear just to screw up your first three tries at fixing the thing just doesn't make too much sense. Now that you're in front of the firing squad, it's time to drop some knowledge on your fix-it guy. Tell him what the car's doing. Then tell him what you found out when you inspected the transmission. If there's a leak, let him know where and how much is leaking.

Time for a rebuild?

When your transmission gets tired enough, you'll have to have it rebuilt. It's true. For some makes and models of car, it's true a little too often, but that's neither here nor there. The important thing is checking any other possible causes to your problem before you take the transmission apart, which is very expensive. If you haven't replaced your filter yet, do it! This fixes a nice percentage of transmission problems. If your filter is good, and nothing simple is out of adjustment, be prepared to drop some serious dough on the rebuild. The good news is that most shops warrantee a transmission rebuild for a nice amount of time. A small consolation as your handing over the credit card, but at least you know that it will get fixed and stay fixed.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya.

Do remember to rate this solution.

My 2005 escape 2.3l instrument cluster vibrates up and down after a few seconds of cranking. Vehicle will not start, has spark and gets fuel.

Not sure why the instruments vibrate unless they are loose and/or the engine isn't cranking smoothly and perhaps the engine mounts aren't as good as maybe they should be. If the engine is in mechanically reasonable condition, is correctly timed, etc. and getting a good spark and the right amount of fuel it must start. It doesn't start so one of those necessaries is absent and finding which one is not something we can do for you. Taking a guess, you heard the fuel pump and assumed fuel is being delivered into the combustion chambers - in fact it doesn't matter how much fuel pressure there is in the fuel rail it isn't going any further unless the injectors are receiving a supply and the brain is switching them on. A noid light is a good way to check for injector impulses and they don't cost much. Before you go further, is the immobiliser properly disarmed? You will find details in the vehicle handbook.

Location main control module, 2005 escape 3.0 replaced bad COP's on #1 & #2 Still runs the same & get same codes 0351 & 0352 Do I need to replace main control module??

You should learn how to test if you want to fix your own vehicle . There is transistors inside the PCM / ECM that supply a ground to the coils - COP - coil on plug ignition system . The problem with these is if the spark plug gap gets to wide the coil shorts out inside sending that high voltage to the PCM frying the transistor (driver) .An if that has happened on your vehicle ,yes the PCM - powertrain control module does need to be replaced . An that means a trip to the ford dealer , because the PCM will need to be programmed . Watch this video on testing engine computer drivers (transistors). It's just a ground swithed transistor or a driver as some tech's call them . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FnYllf5D9E https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4r5OcHN5Lg

2005 Ford escape 3.0L xlt

Hi.

Better replacing the PCM with the same module, or with a module that was used in 2005/2006 Escape (starting with 58LA-12A650). Few other modules starting in 58LA-12A650 and ending in different way , may be adapted, but this risks to get you in more troubles. This truck has already enough problems with its own PCM .

Here a ready made search showing a number of PCM used by the Escape. Select only modules used in 05/06 Escape.

After replacement the PCM must be re-programmed using a com tool. For this you will need to go to the dealer or to any Ford garage.

About the PCM, there are 8 years/80K miles warranty on the part. Ask to the dealer if you are still covered.

About the failure, the PCM must be diagnosed accurately. Misfire or no power to one of the spark plug is not necessarily PCM. The coil driver is responsible for this problem most of the time.

I uploaded here the relative service document.

Regards.

Ginko.

Ford 3.0 no power to coil

The PCM doesn't supply power to the coil's ,it supply's a ground . A fuse supply's B+ power to the coil's . Your vehicle has what is called coil on plug ignition system , a coil for each cylinder . Should have plug wires ,has a spark plug boot . IT is common for these coil on plug system's to fry the driver (transistor) inside the PCM ,if the spark plug gap becomes so worn that the spark can not jump said gap. It shorts inside the coil sending high voltage to the PCM driver . There are video's on youtube showing how to test a PCM driver circuit . Your coil has two wires , one should have B+ voltage an the other goes to the PCM . If your coil fried i look for a short to ground on the control side circuit . This video is for a ford 5.4 l V-8 coil on plug system ,same thing just 2 more coils . Ford 5 4 shorted coil primary winding and bad computer driver

2005 Ford escape right head light stays on after shut down. Checked switch, it's good. Pulled fuse it still stays on. What's going on?

First off you need to know how these thing's work , computer controlled . The SJB - smart junction box , a combination of fuse /relay & computer . Do you know what DTC'S are ? SJB diagnostic trouble codes < not one's for the engine OBD 2 system . Need a factory or professional scanner to view these code's , Autozone , advance etc... can not read these code's . Before replacing parts an taking the vehicle apart an checking wiring etc... Checking DTC'S should be the first step. So you know what diagnostic steps to use > Smart Junction Box (SJB) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index DTC Description Source Action B1342 ECU Is Defective SJB CLEAR the DTCs. RETRIEVE the DTCs. If DTC B1342 is retrieved again, INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to Section 419-10 . B1472 Headlamp (Low Beam) ON Switch/Circuit Short to Ground SJB Go To Pinpoint Test F . B1510 Flash-to-Pass Switch/Circuit Short to Ground SJB Go To Pinpoint Test F . B1570 Lamp Headlamp High Beam Circuit Short to Ground SJB Go To Pinpoint Test E . B1797 Lamp Headlamp Low Beam Circuit Short to Ground SJB Go To Pinpoint Test D . B2501 Headlamp, Left Low Beam Circuit Failure SJB If the low beam is inoperative, Go To Pinpoint Test D . If the low beam is always on, Go To Pinpoint Test F . B2503 Headlamp, Right Low Beam Circuit Failure SJB If the low beam is inoperative, Go To Pinpoint Test D . If the low beam is always on, Go To Pinpoint Test F . B2505 Headlamp, Left High Beam Circuit Failure SJB If the high beam is inoperative, Go To Pinpoint Test E . If the high beam is always on, Go To Pinpoint Test F . B2507 Headlamp, Right High Beam Circuit Failure SJB If the high beam is inoperative, Go To Pinpoint Test E . If the high beam is always on, Go To Pinpoint Test F . You would have no clue as to what you were doing without doing this first . Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop.
