Power steering leak
You would have to be a highly motivated DIY'er to change out the rack and pinion unit if the worst case develops. You would have to be semi-skilled and mechanically literate to change out the pump or the hoses. if for instance, you have a worn pump that isn't pushing enough fluid. If there is any chance it was leaking before you overfilled it, you will have to stop the leak before the PS returns. What the typical owner can do is make sure the PS belt is in good shape and at the proper tension. (And suction some of the fluid out of the reservoir so it's down to full.) If it was very, very low on fluid you may have gotten air in the hoses. To fix that, run the engine in park and turn the wheel from full left to full right, about 3 or 4 times, or more if needed, from stop to stop on the steering wheel. That will push all the air out. If the belt is tight, turning the pump good, and it has no more leaks, you just need someone to look into it. The system has seen a lot of years, I would want a professional opinion or estimate from someone who has checked it out. Good luck, Bryson.
