Ignition switch stays on even though the key is removed
Hi Steven:
Using my fingers and toes I think your truck is about 25 years old.
The chances are pretty good that the ignition switch is getting worn. If you look at the key compared to a new one, the inside of the ignition will have similar wear.
If you get a new key cut it might temporarily help, but the long term fix will be to either replace the switch or possibly have a locksmith install new parts.
Keep that old iron running!
Cheers
#1 plug on the distributer
Put number one cylinder on compression top dead center, then look where the rotor on the distributor is put a chalk mark on the distributor housing, then install cap. Where mark and cap lign up to distributor cap terminal tower that is number one. Make sure you follow firing order and which direction distributor turns and put on the rest of wires. (example firing order 1-5-3-6-2-4 is on a six cyl.)

What you are looking for is a part that looks somewhat like this:
...and is located on the part shown below (most likely on the bottom, just above the label "Bolts"). The mounting screws will be hard to get at - either take the throttle body off or use a stubby screwdriver to get at it.
Note that as soon as you loosen the screws, you may throw it out of calibration. When reinstalling the sensor (or installing a new one), you will have to calibrate it. Refer to your vehicle's repair manual for the exact values to measure when calibrating this component.
How do I locate water sensor 1991 ford
There are two sensors; one for your dashboard gauge and one for the ECU (computer).
In the picture below, they are shown as the Water Temperature Switch and the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (or ECT) respectively.
I need the location of water sensor on a1991 ford f150 5.o
Temp switch - Under hood, center, upper engine area, front of intake manifold, driver side of distributor, mounted in engine block,
Coolant temp sensor - Under hood, center, front engine area, passenger side of distributor, mounted in intake manifold,
There is no water sensor
I have a 1991 f150 5.0 starts right up and runs great after drive for a while and shut it off has to cool off before starting or acts like starter dragging I have changed starter 3 times and timing is
Really need to know how many miles are on it and is it an all original Engine...?...Other than that I understand your problem...It surely sounds like you need a heat shield and shim the starter..I know it has happened to a few mustangs and camaros...That is how I repaired them...Be sure and make sure battery has full power....Shimming will line it up more with flywheel. Everytime the starter engages the gear slides out from the starter and connects the flywheel in order to turn the engine over..,then after it turns the flywheel and starts Is when you release the key and the starter gear slides back into starter..If it gets too hot the starter gear will be weak and not slide as easily....So replace or get a heat shield...Since you will be removing starter to install a good heat shield measure the length of the starter nose and the distance from starter gear to flywheel and shim as needed...Remember you have to allow for the starter gear movement ..
