1988 Ford Crown Victoria Questions & Answers
Fix this please
If your horn doesnt work either you have to remove the steering wheel and there is the connector for the horn/cruise control. If nothing broken there, check the clock spring too!
No continuous fire on one fuel injsector on my 98 crown victoria
I do not think that is overheating the converter. The converter is probably plugged. Does it Glow Red? As for the O2 sensor they could be bad but it is probably the Plugged Converter. Parts stores have a bottle that will clean out the Converter but that is not the answer. Mostly people us this to pass the exhaust inspection but it will plug again. Converters are not cheap if you buy one. But the Old Convector will be worth $45-$60 US dollars at a auto recycle center. Difference is one will be steel and one will be aluminum. As for the injector consider replacing them. Easy push-pull most time.

Have you run the codes? I'd be checking the MAP sensor, usually on the firewall and check the vacuum line going to it. Matter of fact, check ALL vacuum lines as they got really brittle at connectors and a break is hard to find. I used to own a nice 88 Marquis.Great cars! don-ohio (:^)
Brake light not working
If none of the brake lights work, replace the switch on the brake pedal. You will find it by following the brake pedal lever upward. They cost around $15 at most auto parts stores, and are awkward but not difficult to replace.
Power steering pump is whining. How do I replace
Remove the return hose, put the hose into a bucket and have someone start the engine. This will ump out the fluid. shut it off, remove the belt, unscrew the hoses. Unbolt the pump. replace and restore in reverse of disassy. Fill with PS Fluid recommended for the car. Not a bad job, but oily. Make sure to keep everything clean, as it is much easier to work in a clean environment. Fords do tend to whine, you know. Not loud if healthy, but they do whine a bit.
Where is the fuel pump relay switch on a 1988 Ford Crown Victoria 5.0
The computer controls the injection of the fuel. If you look at the wiring diagram you will note the bottom 4 pins that are the negative and positive to the left and right injection. Atleast on my 1991 it is .Could be the ecm or computer is sending a false signal or not sending one at all. A sign of this is the fuel pump in the gas tank can be heard and will continue to run as if pressure in the fuel system is not building. Tthe truck want crank as if no fuel. When starter fluid is injected into the Throttle body the egine will start and run untill fluid is used up. It will keep running as long as fluid is added.
No brake lights
Check the fuse in the fuse panel under the dash. Check the brakelight bulbs and see if they are good, it is unlikely the bulbs will both blow at the same time, it pays to check them. If the fuse is good, then the brakelight switch is bad under the dash,on the brake pedal. If you haven't done these repairs before, it is very tight getting under the dash to get to the brakelight switch. You may want to take it to a shop and let them do it.
I hope this has been helpful.
