1997 Ford Ranger SuperCab Questions & Answers
When put into gear and gas applied truck will not move. Parking brake is not engaged. Passenger side rear tire will spin if enough gas applied drivers side will not.
My first guess is going to be that (LR) caliper is locked... although a bit unusual for both (at the same EXACT time) ... it is typically a gradual situation... caused by water absorption in our ALCOHOL BASED brake-fluid.
If CHANGED at recommended intervals... these systems could go for MORE than the (nearly) two decades accomplished here by your system (summary: not a hot point).
You can probably get some TEMPORARY relief by opening the bleed valve (tiny) and working space between the rotor & caliper RE-CLOSE that bleeder and see if any MOTION had been achieved... (but your entire system needs to be cleaned, re-sealed and fully serviced (new or reground rotors, rebuilt calipers... and do the master while you are there (the water caused pitting will be everywhere in the system).
If you are not inclined to rebuild them (new cups & seals) yourself just about every over counter parts house SAYS they can get YOUR rebuilt... (buy new or pay the core charge).
I DO NOT recommend ever letting your OWN originals get away.
Going forward... read the small print and flush your brake system more often than you change the transmission fluid...!!
((the purists say annually... a bit overboard I think but be SAFE)).
Good luck.
Why is my battery going dead after setting for two days?
If there is no obvious indication of lights remaining on after shutting the truck off then having the battery checked at your friendly auto parts store may be in order. Even a new battery can fail. Check the terminals especially if the engine has a poor crank. The voltage should not go below nine during crank at the battery. If the voltage is above 11 and the motor will not crank look for a bad connection.
If the truck is running no lights or heater off the voltage should above 13.
Monitor the voltage for a day or two and see if the voltage drops. Much below 11.5 would indicate that the battery is discharging. With out special equipment it is hard to see the drain from the battery by the truck.. The Electronic modules are always drawing some low level current from the battery.

Basically, remove and replace, drain coolant from radiator, locate t-stat housing, remove bolts, remove t-stat and replace with new, make sure the pellet end of t-stat goes in first, re install housing and new gasket or o ring, refill, burp air, and top off, put on the cap, That's about it. Why is 97 ford ranger not charging, with new alternater
Some units have a fuse within 30 inches of the Alternator. Another common problem is the small wire connector on the Alternator. While the plastic connector may look like it is attached in the seat of the Alternator, actually the metal contacts can push up through the plastic connector.
Check for power to the small Alternator wires. You need power to the small wires to make the Alternator work. The Alternator gets this power when the Ignition switch is ON.
