It could be dirt in the idle jet or a problem with the idle solenoid. what should solve the problem and generally improve the performance and economy of the vehicle is a tune up and possibly a service. This will iron out all those niggly problems.

Your model should be a throttle body injected engine.
So no float and no jets like a carb.
Have you checked fuel pressure before and after cranking ?
Are the injectors spraying fuel when you crank it ?
If not, do you have power and a ground signal for the injectors ?

it is usually under the dash on driver side, maybe behind kick panel. Sometimes on passenger side but not ofiten.

a faulty Crank Sensor and or a faulty Ignition Module, often these sensors do not set a code. The crankshaft position sensor may fail. Symptoms of this are: The engine will crank-but not start-especially when the engine is warm. The car may start again if it is left to cool off, but it may run roughly or have poor performance.

Near the parking brake pedal, either behind the kick panel, or on the underside of the dash.

The 83 still used a carb and mechanical fuel pump I believe.
And the fuel pump is probably bad.
Check the oil and make sure it is not over filled with gasoline.
Take the fuel line off the carb, and see if the pump squirts when engine cranked.
Open the gas cap as well, so make sure a stuck purge valve is not holding the gas back.

Check for voltage at coil and also for spark leaking at coil to terminal. Maybe ignition fuse?

you could have sludge in your gas tank which moves around and clogs your fuel pump. it happens alot in older vehicles.

under dash near were your left leg will be while your sitting in the drivers seat.you'll probably have to remove a plastic panel to see it.

The blower can be located under the passenger side dash or under the hood on the passenger side firewall. Remove the screws and electrical connector to the blower motor and it will come out.
