1998 ford taurus will not start without using starter fluid
I would check fuel pressure before and after you crank the engine. The pump gets power for 3 seconds during startup - if the fuel pressure has leaked down you would have to crank the engine until the oil pressure came up to get the pump to power up again.
Getting P1151 and P1131 codes on my 98 Ford
No that is it, More then likely your 02 sensor needs to be replaced.
But other possible causes would be excessive fuel pressure, leaking/contaminated fuel injectors, leaking pressure regulator, low fuel pressure or running out of fuel, vapor recovery system.
Other possible causes could be: Air leaks after the MAF, vacuum leaks.
Possible causes PVC system:
improperly seated engine oil dip-stick.
Possible causes EGR system:
Leaking gasket, stuck EGR valve, leaking diaphragm or EVR.
Possible causes Base engine:
Oil over filled, cam timing, cylinder compression, exhaust leaks before or near H02S(s).
I know its a lot of info but it could be anything. Take your time, good luck. Let me know how it is going.

Car won't crank
Find the passtime device , it's usually under the dash near the ignition switch. You can trace it by following the wire from the remote eye. There are 5 wires with a plug connector plugged into the device. Leave the red, pink and black wires alone. The blue wire comes from your ignition switch and goes to a relay switch inside the device. The purple wire comes from that switch to your starter.
Leave them cut from the device, but solder, (or connect in some manner) them together so that the passtime device is bypassed. Then your starter will get power when you turn the key. That's all there is to it.
the passtime device will still appear to be functioning. It will beep and take codes from the remote, but regardless of whether it is timed out or not your starter will still get power.
Transmission in 1998 ford Taurus just stopped
possible splines stripped in torque converter that turns transmission pump. Our 2006 ford minivan did this to me when I stopped to get gas. it would not move when i started back up. I cannot remember if scanner showed transmission pressure or if I had to hook a gauge up to find out. I basically had to replace torque converter, I did flush transmission cooler in case medal from stripped splines was circulated thru system.
Transmission is slipping in drive
Wendy,
Have you checked your transmission fluid level? Make sure car is level, engine running with engine and transmission at operating temperature. The dipstick is located under hood, on driver side behind engine. Typically has a yellow handle.
Check that and report back.
Trouble shooting
you have got a air leak by what you say retrace your work especially the manifold gasket
Wont charge battery
Check all cables including those to alternator for corrosion, typically greenish. Dielectric grease is helpful on contacts. New cables may not be necessary but if heavily corroded they aren't terribly expensive.
