Sounds like you covered everything you did. I would pull the dist. cap back off. Take a good look at your rotor. Does it screw down or push down on. If it has screws that hold it down, take it off and make sure that it isn't 180 degree out. some of the older ones will fit either way but it wont' sit just right. Let me know how you make out.

The only way to tell if you have a ring or valve problem is to do the compression test as it the best place to start . Once you have eliminated the compression from the equation then you can concentrate on why the cylinder is getting more fuel than the others. I would be checking for vacuum leaks for the rough running as an incorrect fuel / air ratio will cause missing. We cannot fix everything but we endeavour to point you in the right direction so that you can fix it.

there should be a rotation symbol cast into the headers or connecting rods, and follow that! should be obvious - !Good luck

With the engine running check to see what the voltage is at the battery. If its more than 15 volts than the alternator is overcharging. Depending on the year of the vehicle there may be an external voltage regulator mounted to the firewall. It is fairly easy and inexpensive to replace. do not use it!!! you will do more damage..firstly, is the engine management light on?if so you can try getting a diagnostics kit plugged into it. this will read all fault codes through the ecu.if not you have a few things you need to check. let me know

sounds like your fuel system may be gummed up. Try seafoam. Could be fuel pump. Is this carbureted or EFI. Check fuel pump.

Move to Florida. Or do a compression test to see if engine is worthy of repairs. Check timing, plugs, etc.

try more gas in carb if it runs and wont stay running its the fuel pump

how old is this truck ? needs complete tuneup, new air & fuel filters, wintertime brings out the all the problems, also, replace EGR valve, & PCV valve, they will choke the hell out of the engine, your filters are very important also, if there dirty/old, they will starve the engine. talk to the ole girl while you do all this work, she'll respond, I promise !!!! make sure all the vacumn lines are good, tighten all throttle body bolts, etc
