1987 Dodge Ram Wagon B250 - Page 9 - Answered Questions & Fixed issues

You are in Limp Mode because the ECM has diagnosed a major fault. Limp back to the dealership and tell them they didn't fix the issue. They will connect it to a fancy scan computer and see the fault codes.

That vehicle has issues with the Body Control Module. It needs professional diagnosis as it also controls the antitheft system. There are fuses on it you can check, but unlikely to be the problem

That can be a few different things , The most obvious is dirty or old transmission fluid , transmission fluid needs to be flushed every two years in an Automatic , Autos 80% of trans failure occurs from people not servicing transmissions , i use fully synthetic fluids as it exceeds OEM , i do proper flush in my back yard nut a drain and fill , old fluid you can also get vibrations through steering wheel , engine will cut out while idling at lights from old fluid , bet you you have not serviced transmission

Sounds like something has gone wrong in the latch itself. Even if the child lock was engaged, it should open from the outside. You will need to remove the inside panel to get access to the latch and get it to release. I would plan on changing it with either a good used latch or possibly a new one if you are unable to find a good used one.

It has been a long time since I owned one.

1. If I remember correctly, there is a button on top of the shift lever for turning the overdrive on & off. Are you pushing that button accidentally ?

2. Fluid & filter should be changed every 80,000 miles to get the most service from your transmission. That could be the problem.

Do not flush transmission ! You will blow the seals ! Flushing is for transmissions with 120,000 miles or less.

3. Under the hood, mounted on the passenger side firewall is the transmission controller module or brain box. It has been known to cause the transmission to slip when the heat reaches a certain temperature under the hood. Brain box is slowly dying.

4. It also could be the transmission solenoid. Some are electronic -some work on vacuum. Do not remember for this model.

These are the easy fixes. Otherwise it will mean removing transmission & disassembling.

Good Luck !

Usually a wheel speed sensor. A lot of times it will be a wire going to it, sometimes you have a bad sensor. It's a fairly simple fix. You can do it yourself If your handy at all.

First charge then check the battery, if the starter doesn't turn locate the starter relay in the under hood fuse block remove the relay and use a small piece of wire jumper #30 to #87 and the starter should turn. If not check fuse F-13 or F-16 it will be a 40 amp fuse. If it still doesn't crank or just clicks you have a bad battery cable going to the starter or the starter. This test bypasses the security systems and the computer. I hope this helps. Take care. Use comment to ask questions and it will show in my email. I will answer within the hour.
