The best way would be to remove the radio and get the 14 digit code off the side of the radio and then give your local vW agent a call, they should be able to help you over the phone.

The best way I have found is to use a small flat blade screwdriver to break the bronze bushing apart, but becareful of the bellhousing. The bronze bushing will break apart pretty easy. Of course, VW makes a tool to remove it, which is about impossible to find. I have heard of taking a tap and tapping some threads into the bushing and then screwing a bolt into it and trying to pull it out.

Sounds normal. If the gauge moved further over, it would indicate an overheating problem, wouldn't it? Check that engine is at normal operating temperature after it warms up. If it is running too cold, your thermostat might be stuck open.

That definitely sounds like a heater core. It will likely cost you 300 to 400 dollars to get it fixed. You can do it yourself if you're handy and have the time (or a good friend that can help). Here is a good write up on how to do it:

Get an engine heater and ask @ the auto shops what the do for DIESELS in the winter. As far as lifting you're unlikely to find anything. Make sure you have good snow tires and carry chains and a shovel. You should probably look for an AWD car or truck.

you can jump the fuel injection relay. This will make the fuel pump run continuously--test only! You can hear the fuel pump run when you try to start the car. You can hook up a multimeter to the fuel pump plug to test for 12V. no volts at plug? then change relay or fuse.

!st thing is get the revised head gasket (used on 1993 up) for this engine from VW or Felpro, always use new head bolts or a repeat failure will occur. Using the revised head gasket here is the procedure to torque the head down, it is done in stages. PLease go to this site and read the whole procedure.

Simple solution is keep the tank full. What you are seeing is caused by the "free surface effect" (gasoline sloshing back and forth in your tank). If you can't keep your tank full. learn to ignore it or put black tape over it. The repair will be very expensive.
