check first in the workshop manual if it is a one piece seal or two piece seal. If it is a one piece seal then the gear box and flywheel have to come off. If it is two piece then the gear box has to come out and the sump has to come off so that the rear main bearing can be removed.

Is the check engine light on when the engine is running ? If it is, check for trouble codes.My first guess would be a faulty throttle position sensor. The sensor tells the computer what the angle of the throttle plate is. The sensor tends to wear out just off idle where you keep your foot on the gas pedal the most.Could be a vac leak or something else too.
ask a local mechanic to have a look for you ,couldnt tell you without head under bonnet and good play around as and when this fault appears ,check the electrical switch on the back of the ignition lock first
