Replacing water pump
To replace water pump on Chevrolet s-10. You need take of the top half of the fan shroud, pop off the hoses to the water pump and the take out the bolts to the water pump.To get the fan off, you need a special tool called a half h tool, The half H tool holds the bolts in place so you have leverage to then twist the fan off. Before removing parts to replace water pump first drain the antifreeze.Place the drain pan under the radiator, open the drain on the bottom of the radiator and allow the antifreeze to drain into the pan.Remove the upper fan shroud using a 10-mm socket. Remove the four 13-mm nuts securing the radiator fan to the water pump pulley, using a wrench.Pull the water pump pulley off the water pump. Remove all hoses from the water pump, including the lower radiator hose and upper heater hoses. Remove the four bolts securing the water pump to the block, using a 15-mm socket and ratchet with the 3-inch extension.
lift the water pump off the block. Clean all the remaining gasket material off the block passages using the gasket scraper. Lay the new water pump face down with the outlet ports up.And complete the procedure of fitting the new water pump in reverse of how you removed the old one.---------------- Thank you.
Need to replace the entire ignition how to remove
Ignition Switch - REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
(see Figure 1)
-
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
-
Remove the lower column trim panel, then remove the steering
column-to-instrument panel fasteners and carefully lower the column for
access to the switch.
-
Place the ignition switch in the
OFF-LOCK
position.
If the lock cylinder was removed on vehicles through 1991, the
actuating rod should be pulled up until it stops, then moved down one
detent; the switch is now in the Lock position.
Fig. 1: Adjusting the ignition switch
-
Remove the ignition switch-to-steering column retainers, then remove the assembly.
To install:
-
Before installing the ignition switch, place it in the
OFF-LOCK
position, then make sure that the lock cylinder and
actuating rod are in the Locked position (1st detent from the top or 1st
detent to the right of far left detent travel).
Most replacement switches are pinned in the OFF-LOCK position for
installation purposes. If so, the pin MUST be removed after installation
or damage may occur.
-
Install the activating rod into the ignition switch and assemble
the switch onto the steering column. Once the switch is properly
positioned, tighten the ignition switch-to-steering column retainers to
35 inch lbs. (4.0 Nm).
When installing the ignition switch, use only the specified screws
since over length screws could impair the collapsibility of the column.
-
Raise the column into position and secure, then install any necessary trim plates.
-
Make sure the ignition is
OFF
, then connect the negative battery cable.
Ignition Lock Cylinder -
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
(see Figure 1)
-
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
-
Matchmark and remove the steering wheel.
-
Remove the turn signal switch from the column and allow it to hang
from the wires (leaving them connected). For details, please refer to
the procedure located earlier in this section.
-
For vehicles through 1991, place the lock cylinder in the
Run
position.
-
For 1992-93 vehicles, remove the buzzer switch assembly.
Fig. 1: Ignition cylinder replacement
-
Carefully remove the lock cylinder screw and the lock cylinder. If
possible, use a magnetic tipped screwdriver on the screw in order to
help prevent the possibility of dropping it.
CAUTION
If the screw is dropped upon removal, it could fall into the
steering column, requiring complete disassembly in order to retrieve the
screw and prevent damage.
To install:
-
Align and install the lock cylinder set. On vehicles through 1991
it will be necessary to rotate the switch clockwise to align the
cylinder key with the keyway in the housing.
-
Push the lock cylinder all the way in, then carefully install the
retaining screw. Tighten the screw to 22 inch lbs. (2.5 Nm) on tilt
columns or to 40 inch lbs. (4.5 Nm) on standard non-tilt columns.
-
If necessary, install the buzzer switch assembly.
-
Reposition and secure the turn signal switch assembly
-
Align and install the steering wheel.
-
Make sure the ignition is
OFF
, then connect the negative battery cable.

Best bet is go to your local major chain auto parts store (Pep Boys, Advance, Auto Zone, O'Reilly's, etc. and purchase a vehicle specific repair manual. It will contain all of the info you have inquired about and shouldn't cost much over $20
If you don't want to buy one, go to your local library and check out a vehicle specific manual.

Recommend you loosen the fuel line at the carburetor to see if there is pressure there. If yes, take the float bowl cover off to see if the bowl is filling. If the bowl is not filling, there is a clog between the line and the float needle--use a wire to clear out the clog. If the bowl is filling, remove the carburetor and rebuild it or replace with a rebuilt one. Rebuilding a carburetor is not hard, but in the case of a clogged carb, you need to clear all the passages well. Please let me know if you have questions and thanks for using FixYa.

Good Lord! The FILTER should never be fuel soaked. I would have it given a full tune up, have the carb tuned, and then, for heaven's sake, check the distributor timing. That, and less importantly (I doubt it's the valves if it runs) the valve/cam timing. But mostly check that distributor!
Would like a diagram of the vaccum hose lines to
there are 3 lines on the transfer. one is a vent that t's to the vent of the transmission. one goes to the vacuum bottle. and the other goes to the actuating bladder on the right fender by battery. the switch is actuated when you select a 4wd position and then the vacuum actuates the front axle. very simple setup.
Cranks for 30-45 secs and then starts when cold
Check fuel pressure prior to starting truck when cold. If there is no pressure in the system what is happening is that your check valve in the fuel pump has gone bad and allowing fuel pressure to relieve itself back into the tank. This causes a large air bubble in the fuel line that can take quite sometime to purge before it starts when fuel reaches the throttle body, which explains your long crank hard start.
If you have no means to check pressure you can also remove the air cleaner and look into the top of the throttle body while an assistant attempts to start the truck when cold. You should see fuel instantly if you do not your pump is failing to hold system pressure.
If your system is failing to hold pressure between starts the remedy is to replace the fuel pump.
