this is not an easy fix i can help but i need to know how much auto repair do you know because you might have to do a transmission filter and fluid change let me know

Please tell me what the probles are you have?? Fuel pressure from the pump should be 5-7 PSI

Something is wrong with the choke circuit but at this age just disconnect it.

does it stall or does it shut off and not restart?are you loosing spark from a bad module? a 83 would still have a electronic controlled carb if original was the timing set with the dist in proper mode?is the a stuck mixture control solenoid?

it is either located on the floor boad just left and up from the brake pedal may be exposed or may be coverd by the carpet. is just a button syle switch held in place with two screws, dont forget to clean the area it mounts to as that serves as its ground and will not work properly if the contact is coroded. second location for gm was on the collum mounted on the left side accross from the ignition switch "not the key tumbler"not to hard to get to just need to unbolt the collum and drop down a little bit for access good luck! please dont forget to rate my solution take care

You need a very good quality pitman arm puller. OTC or SnapOn have decent ones but a chinese unit bought at a parts store will just bend. Install the puller, put some serious pressure on the center screw, and then use a punch and hammer to shock the arm right were it goes around the shaft of the box. Sometimes these things are on so tight you have to remove the box and set it up in a press.

Back?? where?? maybe its the back of the intake manifold, not the valve covers. Very common leak area.
