Volts problem
the best way to find if you have a short/draw being taken from the battery is to shut off everything in your car open your hood and close your doors in case you have a dome light that comes on when the door is open .Then take and disconnect the ground cable from the battery hook up a test light from the positive post and touch it to the disconnected ground cable if the light comes on you have a short now all you need to do is start pulling fuses until the light goes out then you know on which circuit your short is on.
I have a 1982 el
Sounds like a transmission problem. Change the transmission filter and fluid and make sure it is topped off to the proper level. Have the transmission checked out to ensure there isn't a problem in the torque converter.
Rewiring entire 1971 el camino interior and under
Wow, quite an undertaking. I had an '81 El Camino and wish I had never sold it. Originally it had a 267 c.i. V-8 with a Rochester 2bbl carb. I put in a Chevy 350 4-bolt main crate engine, Edelbrock intake and carb, and Hedmann headers (it ran like a scalded dog LOL). My advice is to look for a Haynes manual covering the '71 model year. They have complete wiring diagrams in their manuals, but the wire routing will be up to you. Good luck.
Reverse lights stay on in every gear
Well, the only thing left is the switch. It's probably either stuck in, or broken to where it's always showing as on.Is it Auto or Manual? On some automatic transmissions, the Neutral Safety Switch doubles as the reverse switch, so that's the one you'd want to ask for. Manual trans would have the reverse switch.Go to your favorite auto parts website and look up your vehicle. Then look up the switch. It'll give you pictures of the part, then that might help you identify the switch, and give you a price. Looks like around $10 or so around here. There are few switches hooked to that year manual transmissions, possibly only one: the one you're looking for.How to test:With the car on jack stands, put key to ON position so the lights come on.Under vehicle, look on the transmission for components with an electrical connector attached.Disconnect the electrical connector and see if the lights go out. If there's more than one, try only one at a time. The one that turns out the lights is the one you want.Hope that helps.Good luck! :)
How do I remove the upper A arm on a 1979
youll need to purchace what i call is a balljoint remover ( pickel fork )you many want to purchase both sizes. Having also a assortment of wrenches, a floor jack to set under the lower A arm and jack it up a bit. all this once the tire and rim have been removed. Because you are seperating the front spindel that holds the tire on from the upper A arm the floor jack is nessary. you may also put a jack stand under the framing of your El Camino to support that paticular side of your El Caminos front frame. once the jack stand and floor jack are placed properly your tire and rim can come off. You can see the that there is a nut with a cotter key on it. you remove the cotter key then the nut , after that you may remove or seperate the upper part of the spindle from your A arm. The coil spring is going to pop the A arm up and relieve the tension of the spring. Once that is completed remove the back side of the A arm which you can see, that it is secured on both sides. You'll figure the rest out once you tear into it.Hope this was helpful. as for instillation of the new one reverse what you did, by the way the coil spring will have to be compressed.
