My 1988 camaro is running bad and I was told that the gas is bad
If its bad or old gas, first chg. the fuel filter, then put some fuel additive in the tank like dry gas or fuel injector cleaner or fuel stablizer and fill it up with new gas and run it. when seting over the winter or a extended period of time it will collect moisture. The only way to get the old gas out is either siphen it out or drop the tank to get it out. I would do the additive its better than the alternative.
1988 camaro problem
If your timing is good, dubble check your spark plug wire. Make sure they have the right fireing order.
Good luck and hope this helps
Small block chevy wiring
You should have a purple wire that goes to the starter, plus the red one from pos on battery. I believe you will have a red wire and a black w/red stripe or red/ w black stripe gong to the alternator.
As far as the distributor I think factory was a big pink wire. But you can also just run a wire from the fuse box that would only be hot with key in on position. If you need more help please ask.
Make sure you have your seat belt on and hang on to the steering wheel when you drop the hammer on that 383cu.
Good luck and enjoy.
88 camaro wont start
Hi
Turn key on a listen for fuel pump running in tank. The fuel pump should run for 3 to 4 seconds and kick out. If not running try tapping bottom of tank with a soft hammer and fuel pump might start working but if this is the problem it will have to be replaced.
My 88 camaro now has no vacuum
Do you hear a hissing noise, either in the car or under the hood when its running? If you do just follow your ears and thats where the leak is. All vacume comes from the engine when its running, sounds to me a maine vacume line has come unhooked under the hood.
Wiring
You need a 12v lead to the ignition switch, a 12v lead from switch "run" terminal, to coil battery terminal. You also need a lead from the ign switch start terminal to the small post on the starter solenoid. Battery connects to engine block (-) and large terminal on starter.(+) This will give you start and run. Good luck...Hope this helps you!
Turns off when i slow down fast
You may have a vacuum leak somewhere in the brake booster. The vacuum is created by a tube leading to your intake manifold, and if you hit the breaks too hard, it'll **** the air out of the manifold in order to restore the vacuum- hence the engine dying. The leak could be anything from a visible hole to a pin sized hole.
88 Camaro not turning over
sounds to me like the ignition switch did you also replace the starter solenoid did you connect the wires to the starter solenoid correctly
88 camaro will not start
First determine if you have spark if you have spark than check if you have fuel if you have spark and fuel, than check compression if you have those three things your engine should start. You didnt say if the engine turns over or not without more info it is difficult to diagnose you problem
Car will not start
the spark may be weak, check your coil, and make sure its putting out proper voltage. its cheap enough to replace. also, check your cap and rotor for corrosion and replace accordingly.
Trunk lock
Ahh i had the same problem.... i looked at my fuses and they were fine and even my wires LOOKED fine... give them a little tug just to make sure they aren't disconnected.... if not a new motor is about sixty dollars and simple to replace
