Did you test the exhaust back pressure ? 1 to 1/2 pounds are normal readings of the pressure. Could be clogged catalytic converter need an exhaust backpressure test. Valves intermittent valve problem, broken rocker, push rod. Thanks MEGABUCK
I'm assuming you a talking about a Turbo Diesel. Diesels can be complicated. I would suspect the fuel injection pump. It must reach 1900psi to overcome the compression.
I've had pumps go bad because of the ultra high tolerance needed in the pump itself to get to that performance level.
I stopped to assist a gas powered Winnebago stuck on the highway a while back. The engine would run but not produce much power or rpm's.
The problem turned out to be a plugged muffler which seriously reduced the air flow to the intake system and as a result the power and ability of the engine to rpm's or power.
As modern day vehicle engines are computer controlled there could be systems that are not functioning properly...which should log a code and activate a warning light on your dash board. ODBII diagnostics is always the first step to take when trying to isolate a fault.
The Internet, though, has a large number of web sites where
you can buy service manuals and schematics from bookstores,
publishers, and other collectors. Here is just a sampling of

Check for trouble codes. Battery good? Doe engine crank over at normal speed?Gas, air, spark, and compression: what the cylinders need to fire. No starts are usually gas or spark related. So check for spark at a spark plug wire end to see if ignition related problem, and check fuel pressure for a gas problem. Do you hear the fuel pump turn on for a couple of seconds when you turn the key to on?
pull the door panel off and find out if you have a cable or neoprene belt, if its a cable you may have to replace the whole window regulator ( fairly easy ), if its a neoprene belt you can just replace the belt.
