A Chilton/Haynes repair manual for your make/model and year will give you all the answers you seek. It's a must-have for anyone that does their own repair, or might want to. There are some repairs that are best left to professional shop (i.e. automatic transmission rebuilds). Disclaimer: I have no vested interest in either the publisher of these books or any auto parts store that sells them. Experience has taught me that one of the first purchases to be made after purchasing a used vehicle is to buy the Chilton/Haynes manual that covers it.

Out of the blue my aveo flashes Hold and won't go into fourth. Disconnected the battery to clear the code and it shifts fine until the car goes through a cycle. I'm sure it's a some low qual Korean sensor/solenoid. Overall, this is has been a great econobox reminiscent of my 1989 Honda Civic. I've replaced most of the sensors with NON -Korean replacements and really haven't had many issues. So when I find the offending solenoid/sensor I will post it here.

Check this proceduto about how to replace a Brake Drum (DIY Complexity: Moderate / Time: 2.1 hours)

1. Jack Stand Set
2. Mallet Hammer
3. Flat Head Screwdriver
4. Floor Jack
5. Combination Wrench Set
6. 3/8 in. Drive Ratchet
7. Tire Iron
8. Socket Set

1. Brake Cleaner

Step 1 Secure the vehicle on a level surface, making sure the vehicle will not roll or lean when jacked up.
o Tip: Safety Tip:Always wear safety glasses when working on your vehicle. Wear other personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary, for example latex gloves or safety shoes.

Step 2 Remove the rear wheel hub caps (if necessary) to gain access to the lug nuts. Using a tire iron or lug nut wrench, break loose the rear wheel lug nuts but do not remove.
o Tip: Turn the lug nuts counter clockwise to loosen. If the lug nuts are too tight, use a breaker to gain more leverage.

Step 3 Using a floor jack, lift up the rear of the vehicle.
o Tip: Using an aftermarket floor jack, instead of the original equipment (OE) jack, can make the job easier and safer. Verify the condition of the floor jack before use.

Step 4 Secure the vehicle with jack stands on both sides for safety before starting any work. The pinch welds or the frame rails are the two best locations. Do not rely on the jack to hold the vehicle up while working.
o Tip: Try to find a flat, level, and strong surface to put the jack stands.

Step 5 Remove the lug nuts. Remove the rear wheels.

Step 6 Remove the brake drum by pulling it outwards.
o Tip: Make sure the parking brake is released before removing the brake drum.

Step 7 Visually inspect the brake drum for cracking, scoring or grooving. If any of these conditions are found, the brake drum will need to be resurfaced or replaced.

Step 8 Visually inspect the brake shoe linings and drum brake components for damage or wear.

Step 9 Replace worn components if necessary.

Step 10 Install the new or resurfaced brake drum.

Step 11 Reinstall the wheel. Torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specification.

Step 12 Remove the rubber grommet from the backing plate. Insert a screw driver into the slot and turn the star wheel adjuster to adjust the brake shoes out.
o Tip: Turn the star wheel adjuster until you feel a slight drag while spinning the wheel.

Step 13 Road test the vehicle.

look for transmission trouble code. sometimes when a problem occurs with transmission pcm take action like no tcc no fouth gear and so on.

The Code 700 is a generic transmission Code and in some cases may relate to Emissions problems relating to transmission performance. Beyond the generic Code, a better scanner will show the specific defect.

The Code 1781 is a hodge-podge of defects. Found a GM TSB on valve seals and valve replacement. It listed (By serial#) a replacement sequence where on some production numbers only the Exhaust valves needed to be replaced, and on others all valves needed replacement. All the valve seals needed replacement regardless of serial#. Perhaps this is a hold-over from your original problem.

The Code 1781 is a misfire Code due to Valve seals. It is also listed as a condition where the Engine Torque signal is wrong. And also a condition where the ECM and TCM are not communicating.. Can't say why so many different problems tied to 1 code.

The Code 107 is as you said is a Map sensor Code. Many makers operate this warning the same way. You are correct that your MAP is probably good. For some reason, the makers blame the MAP for the problems of the devices which report to it. From the O2 sensors back through the throttle positioner and all airflow occurring after the airflow passes the MAP. If the measurements do not meet the settings that are permanent at that "appliance", then a MAP code will show. What you need to do is examine the downstream parts to determine why they do not conform. Even a intake gasket leak will affect the manifold pressure.

auto trans or manual? If auto, the difficulty could be from a failing brake light switch. That switch also controls the shift mechanism. You have to get on the floor board on the drivers side, while it is in park of course. Depress the brake pedal with your hand, you will see the switch depress. You want to remove that switch, take it to your auto store, get a new one, reverse the removal process

You used to able to pull the DRL relay and they would stay off. Newer cars though will disable the lights altogether..

Now that is a pretty good chore.. its mounted to the front of the engine which is near the crankshaft and harmonic balancer. not an easy job..

The Coolant sensor that is a Bear to get at, is on the back side of the head, between the firewall and engine. If left unplugged, the transmission Will Not go into 4th Gear or Overdrive. Looking into the engine bay, look between the Alternator Bracket and Head. This is just under the Fiberglass Intake Manifold. Don\'t even try and get to it from the top side. You will find it hidden in a sort of Cubby Hole, when looking from under the car. My guess is that yours didn\'t get plugged back in after head replacement. The easy one to get at is simple. We just assume you are looking for the Hidden one. We had all sorts of Transmission and Coolant Sensor Codes. Best of luck to you.

Yes you can but make sure the radiator is also full. The radiator uses suction to pull fluid back into it from the overflow reservoir. If there is a leak there may not be enough suction available to **** fluid back into the radiator as the engine cools.
