Replaced distributor gear. how to go about setting

To have the timing dead on you must use a scanner (modis or equivalent) to set the timing to 0 degrees with all loads and accesories off. These scanners that are capable of doing this are fairly pricey, around $3,000.My suggestion would be to take it down to your local auto shop that you can trust.Hope I could help..Thx

Replaced distributor after rebuilding engine,

My neighbor had the same problem on a 1999 Suburban. They had used a new gear from NAPA instead of GM the gear wore out in no time. Get a new gear from GM. I don't think he had to replace the cam.
I hope this helps.

My 1998 chev. K2500 has both 2 & 4 bolt main caps .

what do you mean it has both? either they are 4 ,or they are 2 ....if any of the main brg caps have 4 bolts holding them in, thats a 4 bolt main block. IF the rest of the truck is nice, then its worth it, if its ratty, then no. you may be better off buying a remanufactured engine from a good company that offers a good warranty. remember you will need to replace a lot af parts, water pump, spark plugs, get radiator cleaned, belt, tensioner, motor mounts. ....you want to replace everything you can while the engine is out. plan on $500.00 extra as a buffer.

Headlights work with key off won't work with key

That's not possible. The headlights aren't related to your ignition and are on a completely different circuit and are not dependant on the ign being on. I would definitely feel you have a short in the system. try flicking your brights to make sure they do work with ign on.. Did this just start or has been this way when you aquired the truck and has anything changed, tuneup, service, new radio or any other equipment added??

My heater fan works intermitantly and when it does

Check to see if you have power in the thick (usually 10ga) orange wire coming out of the ignition switch housing when the key is in the on position, this wire should be your accessory circuit which runs to your a/c. If you lose power intermittently there then the problem might be in the contacts for the accessory circuit inside the ignition switch housing. This can be fixed by taking the housing apart and cleaning the contacts with about a 400 grit sand paper. Be careful though there are a few little springs and other tiny parts that can easily get lost. If you aren't too mechanically skilled you could just replace the whole switch with a new one.

I'm having trouble removing the brake rotor on a

They probably froze on! I have had this happen on several vehicles. You'll have to spray something like WD-40 in between the rotor and whatever space is visible. Pound it loose evenly with a rubber mallet or with a piece of wood and hammer.

Below is the actual text for the rotor removal:

Removal & Installation
  1. Raise and support the front end on jack stands.
  2. Remove the wheel.
  3. Remove the caliper. Do not disconnect the brake hose from the caliper. Use a piece of wire to support the caliper, do not let it hang on the hose.
  4. Remove the rotor.
  5. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Recheck the wires coming from the starter, for rub-thru, and grounding. Commonly a wire gets pinched between the starter and the starter housing. Wiring touching or near the exhaust manifold can melt, check there too :)

Where is the inter lock solenoid located on 1992 chevy 2500

Depending on the mileage on the vehicle, you may have to replace the whole clutch assembly. Check the hydraulic or cable to the clutch to insure that it is working properly.

1992 chevy 2500 wont shift up from low

please check the interlock solenoid on the gearshift linkage in the console. also have a check on the clutch system such that if the clutch doesn's disengage properly, then the synchromesh between the transmission prevents it for shifting of gears. if you dont know how to check it please contact us again

Original gas tank replaced because of holes. New

It sounds like the new gas tanks do not have a breather fitted to them.

As you remove gas from the tank it needs to be replaced with air if not it creates a vacuum and natures way of filling a vacuum it to compress the space it is in

Fill a plastic soda bottle with fairly hot water , give it a minute then pour the water out and quickly screw the top on , watch the effect , that is your gas tank

There is either a metal or rubber tube or even a vent in the filler cap to allow air in

You did something to alter that ?

Chev truck shifting touble

Possible that the 3-2 downshift solenoid needs replaced in the valve body of the transmission. I would take it to a local transmission shop to have a scanner hooked up to see what codes they can pull from it. Hope this helps! ~Derek~

98 chev 5.7 #3and#6 clys are missing at ilde to about 2500 rpm

I would test for a leaking intake manifold gasket. WITH A WATER SPRAYER , and the engine running at operating temps and at idle, spray some water where the intake meets the cylinder head. If you hear a little SUCKING SOUND, and the engine smooths out temporarily, thats it Hope this helps
