If it rains, my van will not start. It ususally takes three days or more to dry out or something, then it starts perfectly. Help.
these vehicles get moisture in the distributor cap. replace those with GM ONLY parts. When you go to install the cap, put a bead of wheel bearing grease on the outside of the cap only where it seals to the distributor base. This will keep out the moisture which causes corrosion.

my 97 astro van is an automatic and it will drive but will not go in reverese. also need to know what type of tranny it is just incase I have to order.

The reverse band is most likely broken it will either need a rebuild or a replacement. The transmission is a 4L60-E

recently purchased 95 astro , engine idles rough , after apllying power will accelerate smooth then at speed engine began surging , when slowing down engine continues to surge then , at idle will continue to surge form idle rpm to around 1200 rpm
Sounds like a possible vaccume hose leak?

this lists bank 1 -how common is this to be found to be oxygen sensor and not convertor. Also I have read blogs saying aftermarket security systems with relay in them cause intermittent stalling problems and throw this code because of stall but we have had this van over a year and no previous problems so i am thinking not likely???
if you had a problem with the converter you would also have more codes than just that one you would have codes for the evap plus the bank 2 codes as well chances are the O2 sensor on the bank one is the propblem so i would replace it and clear the code no problems should exist after that. as far as the security system the only way it would cause a stall is if that power feed comes from the ignition relay to supply that circuit to the cutout of the security system in a continuous loop and then only if the relay itself is found to be weak

Where is the fuse box on Chevrolet astro 1997
Its right in back of the break pedal its a black box you wont be able to see right away its about 4 inches by 4 inches the top pulls forward and down there you will see the fuses and the extra fuses and a puller tool (white plastic) and a diagram of where the fuses go. Good luck

1997 astro 4.3 vortec v6 fuel pressure problem. The fuel pump works for about 2-3 seconds when i turn on the key and it works when i crank the engine but i do not have anything close to 50 lbs of pressure and the van doesn't start. Is the fuel pump faulty or is it the pressure regulator? How do i get access to the pressure regulator to ajust it or replace it?
The fuel line filter has been replaced and is o.k.
Hello frankdoiron: My name is Roger and I will help you. If the fuel pressure is not 60-66 psi. the engine will not run right or will no start. At 55 psi. the engine will not start. Unless you have a injector that is stuck open I would look at the fuel pump as the problem. I would also change the fuel filter the same time you replaced the fuel pump. The warranty on the pump would be void if you do not replace it at the same time.

How do you remove an ignition switch key cylinder from a 97 chevy astro van? Thank you
There are one or two little pins in the igniton switch that you need to have pushed in while switch is turned and pulled out.

Bank 1 Sensor 3 is the post converter sensor.

do i have to fix the whole transmission or is it just a sensor the check engine light dosent turn on

A few days ago my van just died. I assumed it was the fuel pump, after I checked the ECM-B fuse and relay. After replacing the fuel pump, the van still would not start. Then I found that the ECM-I fuse had blown. The van ran OK for a couple of days, but I blew two ECM-I fuses today and got home using a 30 amp fuse. The common denominator is rain. It was raining the day the van died and it was raining today. I have had problems in the past with the van dying under rainy conditions, but I have never had a fuse blow until now. I always assumed it was the coil or distributor getting wet from road spray, which dried out from engine heat and let me get started again. Much of what I am finding on-line suggests a short somewhere (fuel injector harness, orange feed wire, fuel pump harness (which has multiple splices because of plug variations)). I'm a pretty amateur mechanic. Any other ideas of things to look at/for?
Did you check the crank sensor wire, it may be hitting the hot exhaust. does the wire going to fuel pump have a problem and is shorting out. ECM 1 ..... then there are 5 components that this fuse feeds
1-crank sensor
2- all injectors
3- ECM
4- electronic ignition control module
5- ignition coil - check for a bad wire in these areas. Hope this helps.
