Is there a steering column security system doesn't allow starts on cold mornings?

I posted some information about your security system on the other question that you posted where you mentioned the pellet in the key on your older vehicle.Let me ask you this: Does the starter not crank the engine when you are experiencing this difficulty? Or is the starter cranking the engine and it just won't start? The reason I ask is because if the starter cranks and your problem only occurs on cold mornings, the problem is most likely to be caused by a malfunctioning Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor. In any case, you should scan your computer network for possible fault codes to begin any diagnosis of either your engine control system or your security system (Unless you really like wasting your hard-earned cash trying to "GUESS" what is wrong).

1999 GMC Safari is equipped with a PassLock* system. It is designed to disable engine starting unless the ignition lock cylinder rotates correctly when the proper key is installed. The system is similar in concept to the PassKey* system. However, it eliminates the need for a key-mounted resistor pellet. The components of the PassLock* system are as follows:> The ignition lock cylinder> The ignition switch> The PassLock* sensor> The PassLock* module> The security indicator> The Vehicle Control Module (VCM)If any of the components (with the exception of the security indicator) is replaced, the PassLock* sytem must be reprogramed before engine start will be enabled. When the system malfunctions, it is necessary to retrieve fault codes from the VCM to correctly determine which part of the system is causing the problem.* "PassKey" and "PassLock" are registered trademarks of Genral Motors Corporation.

1999 gmc safari anti-theft deterrant relay

my car left me stranded in the mountains because of the anti-theft device. I ended up in the dealers, paying a lot, but they changed the housing of the steering column by the ignition where it supposedly caused a short and wouldn't allow the car to start. That was 2 yrs ago and it is acting up again.

Can a maf sensor be tested other than just seeing

According to a Haynes Manual- connect 12v(less is best) to the POWER terminal, Neg to the Neg- then hook a DMM (Digital Multi Meter) to the "signal" terms. Set the DMM to OHMS. Use compressed air or duster- to blow on wire or film (GENTLY!!). You should see an INCREASE in resistance. Imaginge a toaster. Dead short- wire glows hot. Blow on it- wire cools. the ECM reads the incoming air stream- by how much the wire(or foil) is cooled. The ECM wants(and TRIES) to keep the wire(or foil) at a certain preset temp. How much more voltage is needed to do his- determines the feedback ratio to the injectors- to the amount of fuel. USUALLY REPLACE. Be careful to COMPLETELY cover the shiny heatsink portion of the new sensor with ALL of the supplied compound- or the new unit will burn out QUICKLY!!

No air from vents or defrost but fan works

You more than likely have a vacume hose that has come off at the vent switch or under the hood. Unfortunatly you will have to pull the vet switch out of the dash to see if there are any vac. lines off. You can visibly inspect the rubber and plastic vacume lines under the hood. Just be careful how you handle the plastic lines as they become brittle from the heat under the hood after a period of time.
