Ford taurus ignition switch

Sounds like the ignition switch is broken. It is further down the steering column on the bottom side. The key switch pushes a piece of plastic to pull or push on the switch. Sometimes it is the this piece that brakes. Easiest fix it it is the plastic actuator rod is to buy a used steering column and replace everything. You will have to get it re keyed to match you original set. Or if you already got your new key switch re keyed use that. These pics are from a 1997 column but they are very similar to the 1995. 25737807-dszj3yvgqnnti4x1jwihsrd2-3-0.jpg 25737807-dszj3yvgqnnti4x1jwihsrd2-3-1.jpg 25737807-dszj3yvgqnnti4x1jwihsrd2-3-3.jpg 25737807-dszj3yvgqnnti4x1jwihsrd2-3-6.jpg

How do I reset the ProLock system?

Hi Carol , do you mean PATS passive antitheft system ? Locked up your car ,do you mean it won't crank over an start ? The passive anti-theft system uses radio frequency identification technology to deter a driveaway theft. Passive means that it does not require any activity from the user.
  • During each vehicle start sequence, the ignition key identification code is requested by the vehicle protection anti-theft electronics.
  • If the key's ID code has been programmed into the system, the powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650) is signaled to enable the vehicle to start.
  • If the key's ID code is not programmed into the system, or if no encoded key is detected, then the powertrain control module is signaled to disable the vehicle.
The passive anti-theft system communicates the state of the security system to the powertrain control module via the J-1850 communications network data link connector (DLC). The powertrain control modulebased on the communications from the passive anti-theft system, will determine if the vehicle's engine is enabled to start. The passive anti-theft system differs from the active anti-theft alarm system in that the passive anti-theft system enables/disables the vehicle from starting and only operates with the ignition switch in RUN/START position. The active anti-theft alarm system has perimeter protection capabilities and operates only with the ignition switch OFF. Refer to Section 13-11A for active anti-theft alarm system information. Vehicle Disabling The passive anti-theft system will be activated and disable the vehicle from starting if any of the following conditions exist:
  • damaged encoded key
  • unprogrammed key
  • non-encoded key (key has no electronics)
  • wiring concern
  • transceiver concern
  • Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) control module concern
  • J-1850 Communications Network concern
  • Powertrain Control Module (PCM)

Where is flasher relay on 1995 Taurus?

An electronic combination turn signal and emergency warning flasher is attached to the lower left instrument panel reinforcement above the fuse panel. The turn signal unit is located on the LH side of the instrument panel. The combination turn signal and hazard flasher can be removed by pressing the plastic retaining clip and pulling straight rearward. One phillips® head or regular screw has to be removed from the retaining bracket. It's square not round !

What would cause the antifreeze not to go back into the radiator from the overflow bottle in a 1995 ford taurus and how can it be fixed ? it has a new radiator, new thermostat and new hoses

Hello Felix, A loose radiator hose clamp can cause an "open" system. Meaning the siphon effect is lost and the coolant does not get sucked back into the cooling system during cool down. A loose or defective radiator cap will act the same.

How do i replace fuel pump?... is there a fuel cut off switch?... if so wear is it?

Fuel pump needs the gas tank dropped to change it. You will probably need a new locking ring too. There is a shut off switch. It is located in the trunk on the drivers side under the trunk side lining.

How to change thermostat in ford tarus

First when the engine is cool, you should drain the coolant from the radiator, being careful not to spill any, also keep pets away from anitfreeze as it is toxic to animals. then remove the thermostat cover, clean the mating surface, before replacing the thermostat. thake note of how the old thermostat is mounted and put the new one in the same direction. then reseal the housing, replace the fluid and run for a while. check the fluid level every few days and replace as necessay as your system works the air out.

It is cold here in NY I've noticed the temperature gauge as I'm driving goes up quickly. Never (at least not yet) to the point of hot usually to the M in normal but when I stop say at a light it goes

Check the coolant in the radiator before you start it when it is cold. It should be completely full if not There is air trapped. fill it with fluid. Check the coolant overflow reservoir. It should be near the cold level, if not fill it to the cold level. If it is the 3.8 engine they are bad about trapping air in the cooling system in engine. Try turning the heater selector all the way to highest temp and drive it on highway until it is fully hot to attempt to purge the air bubble from engine. It is normal for the temp to drop a little when the car is idling at a stop in very cold weather because of the heater load on keeping you warm (the heater core is like a little radiator). also when you are coasting downhill.

2000 taures se loosing coolent

Where is it losing the coolant from? If it is from a hose replace them. If it is from the radiator, replace it! If it is coming out of the top of the radiator overflow reservoir then it could be either the thermostat not opening when it should or a water pump not circulating the water as it should.
