1998 V6 2.8 liter Passat w/tiptronic automatic transmission

Problem solved!!

I had a tuner go over the wiring. He found a loose ground wire and grounded it properly. The transmission has been shifting correctly ever since!!! It felt like a mechanical problem, and acted like a mechanical problem, but it was just a loose ground wire.

Let this be a heads up on VW transmissions!

Thankfully it was only a loose ground wire and not a $5,000 trany!!

Vw passat 1998 won't start on turnig key battery good

Check ignition switch. Connect a wire from battery positive to any ignition fed point on your fuse box and ignition should turn on. Start the car. If it starts replace ignition switch.

I have a 98 vw passat and sometimes take iff slow why is that ??

No power? Your motor sensors are getting conflicting signals, maybe just an oxygen sensor or EGR valve cleaning and some highway miles to settle it in will fix it. Maybe you should find someone with an ODB-II reader (bluetooth, let's say; but it plugs in where those insurance co. readers go) and you pair it with a cellphone to read it (don't check it while drivin', please; the data keeps fine.) Then you'll get all kinds of reasons it's not feeling supercharged from the get-go and can draw a few to fix at a time. Maybe you hit the hypermiling button and it's giving you fixed power to work with...

My 1998 Passat has fuel coming to the engine, current going to the plugs but won't start. What could be the cause? Help!!!

Clean the air filter? What, not bike weather yet? It has spring fever. I wonder how you're measuring these things, but you should try for a concordance from the ODB II port (the computer) and see what it thinks. I'm guessing there is a bad spark wire; if one goes over 40 ohms in operation (that is, lots of current, so be safe) it might be failed out by the computer. It might be failing to pull a vacuum because of a leak in that system. Does it turn smoothly and easily with plugs disconnected?

Where is fuse for startermoter

There may be a fuse for the ignition system, but not specificly the Starter itself. Do you hear a "click" when you turn the key? If not are you sure you have a good battery? Do other electric devices work? If you hear a click when turning to start and a good battery, You have starter solenoid problems. Is this a diesel? Could be the Starter motor Brushes. While somewhat hazardous, can you jump the car and get it started? Autoparts stores will help check battery and other electrical problems if you want to do it yourself. Otherwise you need dealer or reputable repair shop. If diesel engine (and fuel) I'd go to the dealer.

How to exit Radio Safe mode on my passat

Hi
Wiih most radio units....If you have the proper code and have NOT tried more than 15 times to enter an incorrect code....you should be ok.
Turn OFF ignition switch and remove the key. Switch OFF interior lights. Switch ON Radio unit and SAFE will appear.
Leave everything alone for a period of ONE HOUR. During this time NO power (no matter how small) should be drawn from the battery. This is why the interior lights MUST NOT come ON when the door is opened. Trunk should also remain closed. In the event of any power been drawn from the battery in this time...You must start all over again.
Radio should after this time return to standard mode...Usually 4 flashing bars. Then enter your code. Dont forget to lock in the code and all should be fine
All the best with it

The car just clicks and doesn't start.

Hello, You may need to drive the car back to where you bought the battery. You may have a faulty battery or faulty alternator. When the car is running it should be charging from about 13.8amps and above. If the battery is completely depleted, a jump pack will not be able to jump start the vehicle. Hope that helps. G

What would cause the car to not get enough gas or air intake while driving the car and giving it more gas

Fuel starvation can be caused by dirty fuel filters, bad fuel pumps or a throttle position sensor that is not working properly. If the car drives normally at lower speeds and only has problems at faster speeds or under hard acceleration, I would change the fuel filter first.

Where is the leak detection pump

VW usually locate there LDP in the inner wheel arch rear right ,have to remove inner arch lining , this is part of the emmission control system so when it says a 'leak' it means a leak of fuel fumes to the atmosphere , it may just have a worn, loose ,split etc in one of the hoses that lead to the fuel tank and the engine air intake. I would suggest getting a workshop manual for your vehicle that will show exactly where these pipes run etc. One easy thing to try first is to tighten down the fuel filler cap , as fumes leaking from the filler cap will set the CEL to light up , keep me posted if you wish
