vent valve or vapor canister purge valve is what I believe your referring too. You dont need to replace the complete vapor canister, just the valve itself. the valve is connected to the canister with a small 2" long rubber hose.

check the spark plug gaps. [I think it should be 0.8mm ] too small or too large - for surging [ incomplete combustion ] . rough belts- squeel ? check correct tention & spray some penetrating fluid like CRC on the pulleys . But for the **** I really dont know what to suggest

the short answer is electronics. the long one is i suspect a fault in earthing. i installed an aftermarket temp sensor and gauge and i forgot to earth the sensor side to the body. it automatically from cold started saying my coolant temprature was 125, the max it could read. i would suggest you check all the wiring very closely and carefully for breaks, damage, loose terminals. my bet is loose or damaged wiring to the sensors. you may also have an ECU fault. you can remove the thermostat to open the coolant flow to its maximum limits but caution needs to be taken as it will not allow the car to pre heat correctly to operating temp, it will always run colder than specified and if there is cooling system issues (blockages) it will mask the symptoms untill the problem causes serious issues. seeing as you have just about replaced the cooling system entirely it can be pretty safe to say it is highly unlikely you are having mechanical problems. the issues you face are electrical. and if having the dash pulled apart again and having every wire double checked for damage is not your cup of tea your best bet is probably palm it off to someone who just wants a car that runs and possibly upgrade to a newer model.

cylinder head cracked or block cracked...get a coolent pressure tester.. pump it up to 16 lbs watch for pressure to drop.

remove and clean IAC ( idle air control ) should be located on or near throttle body. but if cleaning IAC, do not put body of valve in any liquid. just clean the end. and be sure where it mounts to engine, is not all carboned up. There are many different reasons a car would run rough at idle. You could have bad plugs, wires, coil, good-day !

The recommended tire pressure will be found on the door pillar, in the owners manual and on the side wall of the tire.

Go back to that VW dealer and complain. I'm sure you payed plenty, and I know in my shop, if a customer's car is not repaired to their satisfaction, I want to know, and make it right. Sometimes parts can be bad right out of the box, and sometimes problems are misdiagnosed. Go back, but don't agree to pay for anything untill you get a satisfactory explanation. Good luck.

Yup. Drain coolant, remove belts and the upper timing belt cover. The easiest way is to remove the water pump and housing from the engine and do the rest on the bench. The thermostat and housing will come with it. Make sure you use a NEW gasket on the water pump and a NEW O-ring for the thermostat. Never reuse these parts. DON'T use silicone anywhere in there. When you put it back together the water pump should be torqued at 89 inch-pounds to the housing and the pulley bolts are 15 ft-lbs. The thermostat housing is also torqued at 89 inch-pounds. The thermostat is real easy on the bench, not so easy in the car (hint,hint).
It may be easier and faster to fill the block with coolant through the top rad hose and then top up at the bottle. Don't be surprised if it takes a few days to get all the air out of the system. Hope this helps.

Hi Rozanne, It could be a bad connection on the main cable from the battery to the starter motor. I'll need some more details from you though. 1) When you crank the engine is there a clicking sound comming from under the hood? 2) What do you mean by 'short cutting' it. 3) Is the starter turning when you try it on the cars own battery? Can you let me know all the different symptoms the vehicle has from when it worked well and the difference between now and then. Regards Johngee

The most probable cause would be a faulty oil pump. If the oil level is full, and the light continues to flash, then the cause would be an oil pump issue.

Check to make sure there is no air in the cooling system,and make sure the cooling fans are working.The cooling fans should come on,on there own,and go off on there own,without the ac or defrost on,make sure they are off.

Hello. The thermostat is located on the pass side of the engine down below right next to the lower rad hose. If you have a/c you will have to move the pump away. I just changed mine in my 1993 Jetta the other day. Good luck!

The oil pump is located into a sump.Loose all the screws around the sump but the first drain the oil.You need also new sump gasket.

take the tranny off and replace the clutch. gotta pull the motor to get it out if its front wheel drive

Hi - Sorry to hear you're having problems.
My expert advice is to take it to a shop. The idea that wheel bearings are easy is not true - and if done wrong could cost you your life.
Please consider letting a professional do it as it is costly just to purchase the tools and is dangerous even with the car on jack stands.
