Engine light came on

Take it to the nearest Autozone auto parts store and borrow there free OBD II scanner. Plug it in underneath the drivers side steering wheel and the scanner will retrieve the error codes. Look in the Haynes repair guide to see what the error code means

Ineed to replace a blower moter resister. only

The blower resistor pack needs to be replaced, it's common for the blower speed resistors to burn up and will need to be replaced. It's easier to replace with the glove box out of the way. gmparts direct has the harness and resistor as a package deal. Their part number is PK15218254.

GM Parts list:

Resistor - p/n 15218254 $8.59*

Connector - p/n 15306069 $30.70*

Wiring harness - p/n 89019124 $20 *

You don't need to remove the glove box, just lay on the floorboard and look up under the dash. There's a 4-wire harness plugged into the resistor assembly (white plastic), in the bottom of the black heater blower shroud. Unplug the harness, remove two small screws, and pull down to remove the resistor assembly.

Good luck and merry xmass.

Intermittant light/turn signal problem

Look for a loose ground wire to the lights themselves. Also the bulb can be bad but you can't see it. The light will seek a ground if it doesn't have a good one. It will "feedback" through the wiring and make the lights act really weird.

2006 Canyon 4cyl has extremely low idle.

Could be:
  • A vacuum leak
  • An air restriction in the intake air path or exhuast
  • A faulty positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve
  • Damaged/failed/dirty throttle body
  • Internal engine problem
  • Failed PCM (powertrain control module)
I say back to the shop if its a real problem, if at all to just clear the code to see if it comes back. That code is just an informational code. Just says what the car is doing :\ . My first guess would be a vacuum leak somewhere followed by a throttle body issue.

This bulletin cover the use of wrong oil filters on the engine. The use of GM oil filters is recommended on your truck.

What happens is the oil will go into the oil pan over night causing the engine knock in the morning. The GM oil filter has a check valve in it to hold the oil in the upper half of the engine.

How do you turn off the oil change light after the

GM Oil Life System This system calculates the estimated percentage of the engine oils remaining useful life and alerts you through the DIC when its time to change the oil by displaying CHANGE OIL. Please remember to always reset the oil life system after an oil change.
Reset the oil life system Press and hold the control stem for more than two seconds while OIL LIFE is displayed. When completed, the system will reset and a beep will sound.
Good Luck and Remember.

Nice, but doesn't work for my 2006 Silverado. My manual says:
1. Turn ignition key to RUN with engine off.
2. Fully press and release the accelerator pedal 3 times within 5 seconds.

If the OIL LIFE RESET message flashes for 10 seconds, the system is resetting.

3. Turn the key to LOCK.
