How do I remove the fan switch to replace it on
Have your radio code before you pull it out with the right radio tool. This pull would involve removing this parts.
- Glove compartment
- Driver side panel
- Center top dash board
- Defrost switch carrier
- Radio unit
- Center lower half of dash
So I'd suggest go to your local public library and look for your car manual. It would be either Chiltons or Clymers manual, it's not as precise a Bentley VW Official factory repair manual. Yes it really involves taking all those parts out just to get to the rotary switch.
No crank/no start
The starter motor has two wires to it, a large battery cable and a small push on signal wire. Disconnect the small wire and use a jumper wire to jump from there, the starter to the large terminal. This should activate the starter motor and crank and if the ignition key is switched to run or on, the engine should start. If nothing happens, then the power and connections from the large starter wire to the battery should be checked. All electrical connections need to be clean and tight. If it starts, then the problem may be a clutch pedal switch or a neutral safety switch not making contact or in need of adjustment.
Are they known for oil leaks
I believe age would have a lot to do with that. A vehicle that is 15 years old will need to have gaskets replaced.
Where is the starter located on a 2000 vw beetle
If your VW is a streight shift you can see it pretty good with the drivers side front wheel off. It looks like you could take the battery and battery housing out and get to it pretty good from the top. Good luck.

2000 VW BEETLE DIES WHEN COMING TO A STOP
you might have bad gas when it sits for months the gas will separate. best to do is run all the gas out of it till it stops running. have a 2 gallon or 5 gallon gas can with you and fill it up when it finally stops. the other thing you can look for is a rust ground. I had this problem with a saab 9-3 took me months to figure it out. the battery and alternator you can go to any local parts store and have them test the charging system to see if there is any problems
