I would hazard (!) a guess that the relay in the engine bay is toast, the headlights are on a different circuit and a different relay. Check the fuse box if you already haven't, if all the fuses look good then verify that the wiring from the fuse panel to the tail lights is getting power. There is also another relay at the back on the driver's side for the tail lights if I remember correctly but as you have brake lights I suspect that there is more than one problem here.

I couldn't turn off the security alarm on my 1999 Pathfinder as I replaced the battery, Solution: I read the solution here to disconnect the positive cable, open the driver's door, insert the key, then reconnected the positive cable, while honking, I turn the key to the left, to the right and to the left again while the door is still open. The honking stopped. Then I started the truck without a problem. Thank you for the hint.

Was there only one ignition coil to be replaced or did you replace all of them? How do you know its due to intermittent spark and not a fuel delivery issue? The ignition control module is a good next step if you have changed all of the coils and confirmed it is not a fuel issue.

Just a guess,but maybe the coolant temp sensor.

i believe it is built together with the mass airflow sensor!
