Sounds like your ground wire is broken (which could be broken, overheated, loose or corroded) If the color of the copper has changed(looks gray) or is corroded then you must replace the plug.

Hi there, Sound to me to be a MAF sensor problem. The Mass Air Flow sensor, is a length of wire crossing the intake air box prior to the air filter. It records velocity, temp, and flow and adjusts the timing and richness of the mixture. When this plays up, crazy symptoms appear as you've described. bet the workshop manual as sometimes you have to turn the engine over twice to get the marks to line up if it was off 4 links , it probably would not start and if it did would be all over the place

They sold you a bad transmission it should of grabbed the gear instantly and smoothly..

I'm showing the first Cavalier Z24 being sold in 1988 with a 2.8 engine.I'm not sure what you mean by marks, normally you would like up the marks on the crank pulley and turn the distributor to the point where the rotor is pointing to the number one cylinder plug wire.If the distributor has been out of the engine, you will be on or 180 degrees off. Once you get the engine started, you would use a timing light to set base timing.

It's the one nearest the front of the engine. Cylinders number from the front-1, 2, 3, 4. (Firing order is 1, 3, 4, 2.)

you can fill the system with smoke under pressure to force the smoke out any leaks. you can see if a tool rental shop has a smoke tester you can rent to perform this. do not use any open flame near the system as there are fuel vapours.

Can i get a little more information. Is this a steady leak? There shouldnt be anything leaking from that region unless there is water pooling in the air intake for the hvac that has rusted through the fire wall.

Depends on what needs wiring, id find a haynes manual in paper or digital form and find out, usually they have all the wiring info youd need but it really depends on what your wiring up.

Guys he has a Z24, Not KA24, Z24 for one, Is carbed and has older lifters and valves. They need to be tuned to spec within a certain specific limit and the cams must be rotated in certain positions when doing different valves, etc... Shouldnt take very long normally and its not a hard process but if you have a tick, you really should get it checked out. Btw, the Z24 engine's idle isnt controlled by ecu at all or else the carb wouldnt need an idle adjustment screw.

You may have to replace the whole signal switch.

The accelerator pump in the carb could be bad.

Get some 18 gauge wire, two colors, you can do it a couple of different ways. My preferred way is to pull the wire harness if it is a pick up truck. And using a digital multi meter. Or DMM. Figure out what wire goes to which function. And splice it in. Be sure to use connectors and not just twist them together. It sounds complicated but once you figure out what is what. Hi, may you have valves leak. And the fuel go to your engine. What car you driving.

Usually under the dash there is a fuse, but please fix the short in the wire before you replace the fuse. Otherwise it will continue to short out. Good luck.
