1998 GMC Jimmy Fuel Pump Failure?

I was driving home from school, got off the highway, came to a stop at the light, and the Jimmy just died. No sputtering or anything. First thoughts were fuel exhaustion... Maybe someone syphoned the fuel out of my tank? A cop pushed me across the intersection and into the gas station where I added 10 gallons of fuel which means there was still 8 in the tank. Got towed home and went to work on it the next morning. We listened for the fuel pump to engage but are unsure what to listen for, which makes me think that is the problem. Checked the spark plugs for spark, good. Replaced the fuel filter. It's still just turning over but not firing up. Gonna try to listen for the fuel pump again this morning and go get a fuel pressure gauge. Also, we checked the fuse box and did the poor man's test by switching the Fuel Pump fuse with the Horn fuse which were identical. The horn worked with either fuse. Is that an valid test? Any more ideas?

Your on the right track with the fuel pump test, chanses are its the pump thats went out. its best to have two people one to turn key and one to listen out side of car, the best way to hear if it runs. Now don't be fooled just because you hear the pump it can run and still not put out any pressure, thats ware the test comes in.

how do i bypass security on 98 gmc jimmy 4.3

MY 1998 Gmc Jimmy will not start the security need to be bypassed how do i do it

I experienced this problem, intermittant failure to start. This procedure must be done with the truck RUNNING.

Remove the cover off of your ignition switch. On the top there is a small wire connector that, once the truck is running, should be disconnected. This will turn on the 'SECURITY' light. All will be better, except the security light will be on at all times, much cheaper than replacing the ignition switch, however.

Rearview mirror fell off windshield! Not broken...

the rear view mirror just FELL OFF my windshield while in traffic today. nothing is broken, it looks like it should slide and lock into place somehow, but I can't figure it out. Anyone have a diagram or can walk me through how to fix this? Would greatly appreciate it. Cannot afford to take it to get fixed. There are 2 small sliding black pieces and then the mirror...the thing to hold it onto the windshield is still there and not broken. I have a 1998 GMC Jimmy. Please help :)

the mirror should simply slide over the metal mount (button) that is glued to the window.

loosen the set screw on the mirror mount...

hold the rear view mirror mount on the glass just above the metal mount (wide end of plastic opening facing down)

slide it into place...
secure it by tightening down set screw you loosened earlier.

This GM service bulliten might apply to your vehicle:

TSB # 01-07-30-023A
Harsh 1-2 Upshift, SES, MIL, or CEL Illuminated, DTC P1870 Set (Replace Valve Body)
1996 Buick Roadmaster
1996 Cadillac Fleetwood
1996-2000 S10 Blazer
1999-2000 Cadillac Escalade
1996-2000 Chevrolet Camaro, Corvette
1996-2000 Pontiac Firebird
1996-2000 Chevrolet and GMC Light Duty Truck Models
1996-2000 Oldsmobile Bravada
with 4L60-E Automatic Transmission (RPO M30)
Built Prior to January 15, 1999 (Julian Date 9015)
This bulletin is being revised to update the Parts Information

Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 01-07-30-023 (Section 07 -- Transmission/Transaxle).
Condition
Some customers may comment on a harsh 1-2 upshift and the Check Engine Light or Service Engine Soon indicator is illuminated.
Diagnosis
Typically, these vehicles will have been driven more than 32,000 km (20,000 mi) before this condition occurs.
The scan tool may show a DTC P1870 set as a history code.
A harsh 1-2 shift or DTC P1870, caused by wear in the control valve body, may be difficult to duplicate when the transmission temperature is below 93°C (200°F).
Cause
The condition may be due to wear in the control valve body. This wear occurs in the bore that contains the TCC isolator and regulator valves, and results in poor, or no, TCC apply

Important
DTC P1870 is a type B code. The conditions for setting the P1870 DTC must occur on TWO CONSECUTIVE TRIPS (ignition cycles, with a drive cycle) before setting a P1870 history code.
When the conditions for setting DTC P1870 are met (first trip), the PCM commands maximum line pressure and harsh 1-2 shifts are the result.
This may result in a harsh 1-2 shift with no history code if the conditions for setting the DTC required for the second trip are not met, on two consecutive trips (Ignition cycles, with a drive cycle).

When the conditions for setting the DTC are met, on the second consecutive trip, a DTC P1870 is stored as a history code.
When the P1870 code is stored, the PCM will turn on the Service Engine Soon (SES), Check Engine Light (CEL), or Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL).
Correction
Install a control valve body with the revised TCC regulator and isolator valves. These valves are used in all transmissions produced after January 15, 1999 (Julian Date 9015), and all of the service parts currently available through GMSPO contain revised TCC regulator and isolator valves.

Important
If all of the following conditions are true, it is not necessary to rebuild the transmission or to replace additional transmission components beyond the control valve body.

Transmission operation is normal before the transmission reaches operating temperature, or before DTC P1870 is set (no slips, flares, or missing gears).
The torque converter is not blue or overheated.
The transmission fluid is not burned or has no burned odor.
The transmission fluid pan contains no abnormal debris (clutch material, bronze, brass, or metal fragments

got a p1870 code for the transmission, what does

got a p1870 code for the transmission, what does this mean?

You have to love the GM Transmissions. The P1870 Code is very common and the problem is quite simple to resolve but will cost you approximately $200 for the work to be done if you capable of doing the work.

There is a place in Denver that everyone in my area sends the Valve Body's too. The hole in the Valve body is not big enough and sets the code. I have had the same problems with over 10 different GM Products from 95-2004 Chevy Trucks (4L60E and also the Front Wheel Counterparts 4T60E). What you have to do is Drop the Pan, Pull the Valve Body Off and send it to a reputable Transmission repair facility in your area and they will ship it out and get the work done (Normally $200) and then you get a new gasket and reinstall the Valve Body and the problem will go away. P.S. Don't Lose the Check Valve Balls!!!!!

Although you do not feel the Slip, the sensors are picking it up and there is nothing you can do unless you get a new Valve Body or get your drilled out and repaired.

About this OBD code can find several TSB's, if you can visit your dealer and check it, is good.

Hope helps and good luck (remember rated this).
