Backup lights won t come when in revers

Check the fuse, then the bulbs, then the switch on the transmission. The switch could need adjusting, try moving the gear lever around the reverse point to see if the lights come on, if they do the switch may need adjusting.

Where is the transfercase shift motor located?

The transfer case is normally mounted on the side of the gear box so any linkage for high or low range should be in that area.

Starter engages when in park

Sounds like you have a column shift? The nylon bushings are probably wearing out and shorting the ignition switch. You probably need to rebuild your steering column or go to salvage yard and replace with used one.

Rear pinion removel on a GMC Jimmy 1998 4x4 to

Pull the rear cover, remove the axles, remove the carrier assembly, drop the drive shaft off the yoke, remove pinion nut, remove the yoke and knock the pinion out with wooden or brass hammer. The pinion bearing will have to be pressed off and on with proper shim. reinstall with new crush sleeve. There is alot specs and readings yoy need to follow so it is best to get a repair manual and follow it to the tee.

How do I remove the rear pinion shaft from a 1998

you will have to remove the axles first ,then the crown wheel then the pinion flange and pull the pinion shaft out past where the crown wheel was . From the fact that you had to as how to do and that setting up a diff is not just a matter of changing a bearing I strongly recommend to you that you have this job done by an accredited transmission shop as failure to properly reassemble and adjust the settings will cost you a large amount of money

How many cans of freon to fill a 1997 gmc jimmy

You can not use Freon to recharge your a/c system - refrigerant 134a is required. If the system is empty, 1.75 lbs of this and 9 fl oz of PAG refrigerant oil for the HT6 compressor is required. HOWEVER, this is not normally a DIY project. Without first checking various internal system components and properly and completely evacuating the system, you are wasting your money and you may ruin the system. There are top-up kits available, but the refrigerant/oil ratio is critical and without a full system check, using them is unwise.
