This happened to my 2001 chevy prizm and it was a fuse blown. The fuse box next to the steering wheel is where it was located. The little box that says "storage only" has to be taken out. Its a blue number 15 fuse. Once I changed it it blew again and it ended up being My front passenger turn signal bulb needed changed. But if you just change the fuse and it stays then it's only the fuse. Hope this helps.
Annette, I do not believe the 2001 Chevy Prizm is on the airbag recall list, I believe it involves vehicle made in and after 2002.
Check the GM link below, enter your serial #, to find out for certain whether it is. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

Why did you change the coils ?It didn't change anything ,did it ? Did you test for spark before hand ? Did you check for fuel pressure ? and did you check fro compression. ? No Start Diagnostic Basics EricTheCarGuy You need to find service repair information for you make an model vehicle. The whole idea is to test not guess ,just replacing parts . You just cost your self more then if you had taken it to a ASE certified repair shop !
If I understand you correctly you want to remove the pump from that plastic bracket that holds it. Hold the Fuel Pump Strainer side up and you will notice one end of the retainer is open as it is shaped like a "C". Pull the bracket away from the pump and the open end will allow it to come free and then remove the other end from its connection.
I'm not sure why you would take the fuel pump out of the plastic casing because I thought that when you got to the newer vehicles that the pump came W/ a complete new unit. The reason is because the unit has all the senders or sensors for your fuel guage & other warning lights in the dash. If you do have to take the pump out like in the old vehicles, BE SURE TO CLEAN ALL GAS OUT OF THE UNIT. Take a large set of channel locks & try to turn the pump in the unit. Sometimes a shot of carb. cleaner will help to release it. IF THAT DON'T work, CLEAN THE UNIT OUT AGAIN.... The reason is because of what I'm going to tell you to try. I have used a HAIR DRYER to get the pumps out BUT YOU HAVE TO BE VERY CAREFUL, "NO GAS FUMES OR BOOM". Use the dryer to heat the plastic around the pump, just enough to make it swell but NOT enough to MELT it. Get the channel locks & try again. A VERY LIGHT COAT OF OIL OR GREASE can be placed on the new pump for easier instullation. I hope that this helps you, take your time, & all will work out. GOD BLESS.....
check that the tail light assembly is sealed all the way around the unit. Some units are fitted with a sealer and others use a rubber gasket. Reseal or use a new gasket under the assembly
Might be a blown fuse, now if your car is a left hand drive then it's located below the steering wheel to the left and vice versa for right hand drive. There should be a list telling you what fuse does what when you pop of the cover. From there you can look up the fuse and just change it.
What is whining? Could be several things. Here are a couple of ideas.... Check Power Steering fluid level and transmission fluid level. However, if it is making noise while driving, it could be a wheel bearing. Good Luck.
It will help Matt if you would have said what color the smoke is thats coming out the tailpipe. White heavy smoke will be antifreeze getting in the combustion chamber.Could be head gasket, cracked or warped head.Black smoke would be fuel system pumping gas in making it run rich,And not able to burn the fuel completly.
One of two (2) things, I would say is the problem. FIRST, is that if you have CABLE LINKAGE, where it hooks to the Tranny or shifter the connector or cable cover maybe loose. Second would be if it is electronic, & I would say that the shift solenoid is bad & the fingers inside are worn out. Good luck & hope that this helps. GOD BLESS.....
Pull the seat back out and check your wires. Some may be ran under your carpet. Sounds like you slpiced a wire and its grounding on the floor pan under the seat.
Why would you change fluid if the old fluid was BLACKThe trans is burnt,is that new to youHas to be rebuilt or a reman installedFrom now on you change the fluid in all your vehicles every 3 years to avoid thatTrans Fluid remove HEAT That is why you change itIt doesn't fix a thing & should make it slip worse
