2001 Chevrolet Prizm - Page 6 Questions & Answers
I recently started experiencing electrical
This just happened to my Prizm. We found a short in a ground connector, behind the driver's side kick panel. We cut the grounds and soldered them together. That fixed the engine dying issue, but the headlights won't go off. The DRL is apparently dead. I have to plug it in when I need headlights, and then turn on the switch. I'm looking for a used DRL right now.
Inordinant amount of vibration during acceleration
Clunking can be from c/v joints, hub bearing, lower ball joints or strut tower bearings, also from engine mounts (I know you checked but with a stickshift car it's difficult to load it properly without frying the clutch) Vibration likewise is difficult to find when it happens under load for same reason.A code check may or may not give you much to work with and O2 readouts often come from something other than an O2 sensor failure, rather from a failure upstream that sends the exhaust mixture beyond the sensors range.
It's impossible to make a diagnosis on these problems on-line because being there is important in doing this kind of diagnosis. I suggest you seek the opinion of a well trained experienced tech.who can actually be there to observe and test.
Engine light wont go off.
The catalitic converter is a mechanical device , it simply converts harmful emissions into water/vapour.
The 02 sensor if faulty would put the engine management light on. If the 02 sensor has been faulty for sometime it could tell the ECU to supply the wrong amount of fuel to the engine which in turn would eventually damage the catalitic convertor.
So you may have to change both in the end, but first I would check out the 02 sensor and replace if required.
Heater fan only works on high after replacement of heater core
It's very possible the fan motor has quit. The squealing noise is caused from motor bearing failure. As the bearings wear out or dry up the motor is harder to turn and require more current to run the motor. On lower speeds, the motor runs off a series of resistors that reduce the amount of voltage and current so the fan runs a lower speeds. If the bearings are worn, there is not enough voltage or current to turn the motor and that's probably the humming noise your hearing.
Good observation by the way.
Let me know.

2001 Chevy Prizm Headlight??
The problem can be the headlight switch itself or a defective headlight relay. A repair manuel purchased at a auto parts store would give you this information and give you the location of the relay.
