Normally when a clutch "slips" you can almost come to a stop without killing the engine. Also, the truck will not speed up even tho the engine is, such as when you are in a high gear or climbing a hill. Often times, if the clutch is worn out, it will have a high pedal, you can tell the clutch is disengaging as soon as you push down on the pedal instead of half way down to the floor. Same thing if the clutch is oil soaked.

( I have 1997 gmc sonoma 2.2 ) i had the same problem last week.i replaced one side of my coil pack, got it from napa part store paid 40.00 dollars truck is running great! if i had the $ i would have changed both.and make sure you use the grease that comes with it.

The fuel filter is located on the driver side in the middle of the truck the filter is bolted to the frame. There is 3 lines 2 inlet and 1 exit. When you disconnect the fuel lines you can use a pencil to plug the holes for each lines. . The fuel filter is wedge and maybe hard to remove. make sure you do not cross the fuel lines when you install the new filter.

go under truck on driver side look for wires with inline fuse. 10 to 1 its blown

use ohm meter push the switch in and out should only show continuity if works you push it in. If it doesnt change while pushing in and out its prob bad.

Check to see if the fuel pump runs for a few seconds when you first turn the key to the "run" position. You should be able to hear it if you put your ear to the gas cap while someone turns the key. It will run for 3 or 4 seconds and then stop. Check for spark. Easiest way it to hook a timing light to any wire and turn the engine over. There are many reasons for no spark. Most common being the coil, sensors, MAF etc. If the fuel pump isn't running. Check fuses, wires, and finally... change the fuel pump if all else fails. You would be well advised to find one at an auto wrecker if you can. They are expensive.

Have a look for a reverse switch on the gear box, it may have a wire off or the switch is not working. Check for power at the lights when in reverse.

In 1997, they have a serpintine belt, if this belt fails, you lose power steering as well. this would make the vehicul hard to steer. the belt is at the front of the engine. It also drives the water pump, over heating would occur. If these other simptoms are occuring, you have a belt problem. There are to other posible worn items. Alternator, and or battery. If the vehicul is starting it is not you battery. The alternator, should put out around 14 volts. hope this helps.

Hello, all these codes are transmission related.
P0740 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Malfunction
P0753 Shift Solenoid A Electrical
P1860 - TCC PWM Solenoid Circuit - Electrical
If any of solenoids have picked up some debris, or tiny pieces of metal from worn transmission componets, they will often set a fault code. Just something to keep in mind.

Most common cause of LEAN, would be vacuum leaks,& more noticeable at an idle

Next would be front or upsteam O2 Sensor, old or bad

Doubt you have a completely clogged fuel filter,or lack of fuel pressure,
but check that anyway.

You have to look at all the sensors like tps,map,egr,maf, what ever applies
& almost need a professional scan tool to do so.

How do you know it is lean?
Could be rich & computer is correcting to lean

Look at the fuel trim to see if it is either side of zero
Are the O2 Sensors switching,scan tool, as well as scope them
Need to back up one type of test with another

Under the intake ,is a fuel pressure regulator & plastic spyder type
injector arrangement, with poppet valves know for problems
That system may be on yours,I'm not sure. That usually leaks & causes
a hard start & smells etc & may be more to the rich side

Sparkplugs sparkplug wires,fuel filter,air filter and PCV valve.

You will have to do the following:1. Detach the cable from the negative side of your battery.2. Remove the cowl vent grille.3. remove the wiper linkage stud nut, detach the wiper link and unplug the electrical connector, then remove the motor assembly-to-firewall bolts, detach the motor and lift it from the engine compartment.4. Installation is the reverse of removal.

try changing the pickup coil in the bottom of the distributor

• That hum sounds like a wheel bearing or HUB. When you turn to the right your swaying the weight of the vehicle to the left and this makes things quieter on the right side when turning to the right.

• Jack the front end of the truck up and place your hands on opposite ends of the tire (diagonally) and look for any play. This is a way to test for a bad bearing. Do this for both wheels.

• A stuck caliper could do this as well. So could that rear differential. I would start with a good check of the bearings first. I suspect the passenger side front, but check every wheel.
