The 305 is a cyl 5 miss fire the 420 is a cat convertor preformance code When you have a miss and run is with no spark in 1 cyl fuel continuse to go into that cyl and cat convertor burn up when raw fuel hits them .So you have to fix the miss maybe plug wire check for spark at coil do comp test on #5 and check frt cat look for chunck in side .shifting canot be preformed if cat is bad not enough torx.

camaro firebird and transam axles are what i would go for. remember lots of people change out the ratio just look for one with posi it will bolt right up if the ratio is wrong it will only affect speedo and fuel economy a little bit. this can also be changed easily with your ring and pinion out of the old one if need be.

The light stays on because the PCM has detected a fault in one or more of its systems. It won't go out until you repair the fault(s).
Most auto part stores will hook up a code reader to retrieve the fault codes for free. You need to get the codes that are stored first. Without them all that can be done is guess work and that usually ends up in wasted money from parts being thrown at it.
Get the codes and come back and we can go from there.

I don't consider changing the heads to be a hugely difficult task but it is one you'll have to pay attention to what you are doing. I prefer to use Haynes repair manuals as I feel they document better but Chilton's is one of the preferred manuals out there as well. I would not attempt this without one of them. Make sure you have it set to #1 TDC before you begin. Make sure you understand where the timing marks are located at and what they look like so you get the alignment correct when you put it back together. If you take your time and pay attention you should be able to do this. You will also want to go to Auto Zone and borrow one of the Torque wrenches they have and make sure you understand it's operation. The order and method used to torque those new heads down is very important. Aside from the heads themselves I would get new head bolts as well, Personal preference here. The book recommends using new ones because the old ones may have stretched. While you have this apart it would be a good idea to go ahead and put new rings on the pistons and check the Main Bearings and connecting cap bearings.

It depends on what state your in, but there are lots of companys that make headers that are 50 state legal. If you are in CA just make sure it says that it specifically states CA legal. CA is the toughest state on smog so some headers are made just for CA smog legal. Or just pick your favorite and pay someone 100 bucks to pass you. Here is an example. Your motor it knocking. Ether your lifters or rockers. I would stop driving it immediately and take it to a mechanic who can fix the problem before it gets any worse. You may be able to save your self from having to rebuild the whole motor. The last thing you want to do it throw a rod.

you have a pulley that is off center more than likly the alt!! if not have you changed
water pump/ power streing/ alt/ idler pully/ if so ck for alignment thats the only way
or and i cant forget please check to make sure the auto parts store gave you the
right belt for your car duble check with oyher parts store and see if they come up with
the same number as the one you have

You can take them to an Auto zone and have them tested for free.

You may have to "cycle" the ignition switch a few times to get fuel up to the fuel rails. Make sure the battery is fully charged. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position (do not start yet). Listen to see if you can hear the fuel pump running. If you can hear it, turn the key of and wait about 15 seconds and turn the key to the RUN position again. Repeat this step one more time, the turn the ignition to START.

If you cannot hear the fuel pump running when you turn the key on, then you most likely lost your fuel pump when you ran out of gas. This is pretty common - especially if the fuel pump has a lot of miles on it. If this is the case, then you will have to replace your fuel pump.
