Shuts off when its hot

I would replace the crank sensor and never pack fuel into your gas tank. First click when full stop pumping gas. Next time it does this pour or spray some water on the crank sensor and see if it will start, if so problem solved.

My back floor boards get flooded when it rains.

Water leaks are the hardest to find and fix. I usually strip the interior and then I can see where the water is coming in from....Check sun roof drains, door bottom drains, rear window areas for water.

Won't start when engine is

You might want to make sure the vehicle is not overheating. If all checks out, it may be in the ignitions, spak plugs/coils, wires. It could be a leaking injector. Keep in mind, it needs air, fuel, and fire to start.

1997 Olds ** watr leaking

No, you would need to replace the well but it sounds like this is not the problem, most of these that rott are visible with a light shining from outside in with trunk carpet removed from the sides, i think your problem may be in the front area. try sparing with a water hose, no pressure hose, spray around windsheild and see if it leaks inside, another thing to check is the heater box drain, theres a small hole coming through firewall that comes from the heater box , this drains water from ac and wtare that gets into box and drains it outside, check that to make sure its not plugged. if you notice the water after it rains then its not the heater box but check it anyway.

Where is the thermostat on a 1997 Oldsmobile 88

While standing at the front of the vehicle, look to the right side of the radiator to find a large hose connected to the radiator. It will lead you to the thermostat housing. The thermostat is located inside the metal pipe at the other end of the hose. Exact mounting details vary with model year. Generally, there are two bolts, one above and one below the housing that must be removed to access the thermostat. The heat shield on some models for the exhaust crossover pipe partially blocks access to the bolt heads, so some tricky tools are needed to remove it. On mine, I removed the EGR sensor and heat shield so I could access the bolt heads. Once removed, the thermostat is very simple to replace. If the thermostat is located on top you may have to take off the altenator tension bracket.

I have a 97 olsmobile

Sounds like your car could use a tune up. We could throw mud up on the wall for hours and we would find some of it would stick while most fall off. Same with your car. It is an unknown to you. I could suggest this and that and you could spend another $600.00 following that advice and while it would be good advice offered with good intentions, it might be good, wrong advice. So, I recommend you take your new used car to your mechanic and tell him you want him or her to go over it and fix what is wrong with it. I would expect a complete tune up to cost less than what you have already spent.

Good luck with your new car. I'm sorry you are having trouble with it.

Thanks for considering FixYa.com

How to repair odb2 code p0171

P0171 means that an oxygen sensor in bank 1 detected a lean condition meaning there is to much oxygen in the exhaust. Bank 1 is the front side of the engine. There's other things that can trigger that p0171 code like the MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor which could be dirty or faulty. There could be a vacuum leak downstream of the MAF sensor.

Before you try to replace that MAF sensor, take it off and clean it which a Brake cleaner. Try not to damage the sensor and make sure to clean it dry before putting it back in. The MAF sensor is located on the throttle body. It looks like this (They are small and expensive, try cleaning it first before buying a brand new one, not a remade [the cheaper one]):

Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace if they look bad. Check for a dirty fuel filter and proper fuel pressure then it should be back up and running good.
