1991 Buick Century - Page 6 Questions & Answers
I am driving a 91 Buick Century that seems to have
Did you replace the fuel filter also? Have fuel pressure checked, new pump does not always equal good pump, have gotten bad ones before. Check / replace gas cap- may not be holding correct pressure in tank. Or, the seal on the fuel pump hole may not have sealed. Occasionally, the choking and sputtering as well as a pop or hesitation can be caused by a bad catalytic converter. If the converter is plugged, it will choke your engine out due to back compression. A 1991 car with a rusted muffler would prompt me to check out the converter as it is most likely bad also and could be the root cause of your problem. Good exhaust is essential to good performance.
Why do I have to
because it is old and worn out. every part on every car ever made will fail due to age and/or use. people wear out as well. this is not a parts store item and a dealer will no longer carry parts for that car. you need to find one being parted out on craiglist or ebay or a local junkyard, and it must have significantly fewer miles than yours to make it worthwhile to swap in a better latch. there is a chance that the one from the rear door is identical and if so swap your latches front to rear and then close the rear door permanently. before taking the door apart, myself i would swap the posts that trip the latch, front to rear and see if that helps, your front one may be too worn down to trip the latch. much easier to try that first, you will need an impact driver.
Electric fan does not work
This can be due to a bad relay or coolant sensor that turns on the fan or a bad fan, a good test to do to see if the relay and the fan work is to start the engine and then turn on the ac, if the ac doesnt work then unplug the coolant temp sensor this will turn on the check engine light but it will reset when you restart engine, if the fan turns on then fan and relay are good and its the sensor, if the fan doesnt run then it may be the relay or fan, a quick test of the fan is to dissconnect plug to fan and run a power and ground wire to fan and if it runs then you have a bad relay, hope this helps,
1991 buick century,headlites will not
The book is correct, the headlights are individually fused, so if both go it will either be the main switch or the headlight relay could be faulty. It could just not be working or one of the contact points may have come adrift.
91 Buick Century-About 75-80% of the time I will
You need to get the trouble codes out of the computer first. Take it to your local autoparts store and they can hook up a scan tool and retreive codes this give you a general area start looking for the problem.
Hi
What kind of FREON DOES
It most likely is R12 which you can not get anymore. You can make sure by looking under the hood at the sticker, if thats not there anymore then go to the local parts store and they can look it up and get you the kit if needed to change it to 134a. It is not a hard process to change over.

Drivers side door sags towards
Probably your hinge pins and bushings are worn out. Most parts stores sell hinge pin kits and the door spring compressor for removal of the door spring. You may also need some help door is heavier than you might think.
I turned my 91 Buick
I doubt it's the fuel filter. They normally will cause a running problem before they keep an engine from starting. I would be more inclined to suspect the crank sensor or ignition module. It would take some diagnosing to determine the exact problem. You don't indicate whether it's a 4 cylinder or V6.
