Have codes p0170, p0174 and p1518. Car is a 2001
P0170 and P0173 means that the system tried to go outside of the fuel trim limits.
Now this can be usually caused by a bad mass airflow sensor, but there's number of other reasons why the engine cant stay with predefined fuel trim limits. There might be an unmetered air in the system, an injector could be faulty, lambda probes might have shifted charactereistics...indeed, in most cases it's the MAF itself, but careful - i've got some returning customers after "quick and dirty" diagnosis of faulty airflow senso
What does the security light
It starts with the security light and then gets worse till the car won't start anymore. The security system (VATS/Passkey) installed on these GM cars is anti-owner more than an anti-theft. There are 3 parts involved:
1) The chip-key
2) The lock cylinder
3) The TDM (aka the brain of the system)
if any of these parts fails or is even slightly malfunctioning, the car stays stuck where you are and you only get a dealer asking you about 1,000$ to fix it. And all the 3 parts have a quite short lifespan.
Way too many people got in this situation (including myself). I don't recommend any partial solution or any used parts as it would happen again way too soon to be acceptable and if it happens 100 miles from home (like it happened to me....) it's a big burden.
I finally made it to save my beloved 94 Park Avenue (with the same system that is installed in your car) with a solution that I found on the internet and that bypasses the entire factory security system, all 3 pieces altogether and you can even remove the TDM at the end and use 99c keys without chip. The product I used is at
http://newrockies.com and is still working perfectly after 5 years. Don't go to the dealer!
I've replaced the wiper motor on a 2000 Pontiac
Well I have replaced a few Saturn and some foreign wiper motors, but not a Pontiac. There is an arm which attaches to the wiper motor, like you say it is splined so it can be put on wrong. There is however a stamping on the linkage frame which shows where the arm is to be in the OFF or rest position. Perhaps if you checked that out it could give you a clue.
Also I would do a search on youtube for Pontiac wiper motor. Hundreds if not thousands of auto repair videos on there.
Car stalled after overheating
check the oil and see if there is water in it on way over full. could have a blown head gasket or warped head, either one not good.
How do i fix the button on my shifter for a 2000
if it does not push down, then you need to change the interlock solenoid. First hit the brakes and make sure the lights work, because the brake light switch (at the top of the brake pedal) is what sends power to the interlock solenoid on the shifter.
I need the reason for the ecu error codes for a
P0601 means your engine computer has an internal error; P0606 means that the engine computer has stored in memory exactly the running condition( much like a "black box") that the vehicle was in when the P0606 was triggered. P1518 also relates to the PCM in the matter of low voltage.
Try testing the battery as improper voltage can cause all of these codes. Otherwise it means that your PCM has failed and either needs to be reprogrammed or replaced.
I have a 99 firebird
check that all your fuses are in place and tight, if so then you have a loose connection under the dash
Weird problem just started.
the first thing to try is turning the heater upto full heat(a/c off)if the temp guage goes down THEN CHANGE THE THERMOSTAT...(hot oil,if too hot, is thinner than the normal sae rating so the oil pressure will be lower.otherwise no real problem.
When driverside headlight is raised i hear a soft
Headlight motor gears are stripped. It will only get worse and fail to raise up when you really need it. Skip the rebuild kits on ebay and get a quality unit and replace it. Other side is just as old.. be ready! Good luck
My fuel pressure is not
MEASURE FUEL PUMP PRESSURE AT FUEL FILTER CONNECTOR. ATTACH PRESSURE GUAGE TO FITTING COMING FROM TANK. MAKE SURE THER ARE NO LEAKS FIRST THEN HAVE SOMEONT TURN THE IGNITION ON CK. GUAGE PRESSURE TURN KEY OFF PRESSURE SHOULD REMAIN CONSTANT SINCE PUMP IS DEAD HEADED ( NO RELIEF/ REGULATOR) IF PRESSURE FALLS ,PUMP INNER CK VALVE IS LEAKING. IF PRESSURE DOES NOT FALL THEN SUSPECT REGULATOR
I have a 2001 Trans Am with a brake light issue.
There is only one brake light switch mounted to the brake pedal. Either there is something wrong with the connection, the switch, or the bulbs. Get your meter out and a wiring diagram and start from the front and work your way back. In my experience it is always the last thing you check. Prepare for a great deal of cussing and frustration.
