1998 Dodge Grand Caravan Horn Not Working

I have a 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan, 174,000 miles, and the horn is not working. The fuse was checked and found to be fine. At first I thought that there was a problem with my airbag also but eventually that light came on as it was supposed to. How to I either find/fix the relay or replace the horn?

The most common problem with this is the clockspring, it is located just under the steering wheel. It will cause the horn not to work, airbag light to come on, and the cruise not to work. There is probably a recall on this. Contact a local dealer to see if the recall applies to your car.

This is a common problem with driver side window. Its just a wear and tear problem. Don't go to the dealership, the Regulator will cost you over $230. Go to Amazon.com and search for the part number which should cost you only $70-80 or so. If you go to a glass place they will charge you dealership price plus $150 per hour. I say do it yourself which goes a little something like this.

"Factory Alarm Disarm Wire (-): This vehicle will disarm with (-) negative through a 9000 ohm resistor, must use single pulse to disarm and a double pulse on this wire will also unlock.
Factory Alarm Disarm Wire Location: N/A"

Starter - Removal & installing

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and safely support the front of the vehicle securely on jackstands.
  3. Disengage the solenoid wiring connector from the terminal. This connection may be held in place by a retaining nut, or it could be a push-in connector.
  4. Remove the B+ nut and wire from the starter motor terminal.
  5. Remove the starter motor-to-transaxle bellhousing mounting bolts.
  6. Remove the starter from the vehicle. If equipped, remove the starter motor spacer.
To install:
  1. If equipped, hold the starter motor spacer in position.
  2. Install the starter motor into position on the vehicle.
  3. Install the starter motor-to-transaxle bellhousing mounting bolts. Tighten the mounting bolts to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm).
  4. Engage the solenoid wiring connector onto the starter terminal.
  5. Connect the B+ wire and tighten the retaining nut to 90 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  6. Lower the vehicle.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8. Verify starter motor operation.

The starter relay is located in the Power Distribution Center (PDC) in the engine compartment. Refer to the underside of the PDC cover for starter relay location.

Hope helped with this (remember rated this help) Good luck.

1998 dodge grand caravan fuse panel diagram

diagram for fuse panel

Answer

There is also a labeled HORN relay in the fuse box next to the battery... the fuse box is long and rectangular. The inside of the lid has the diagram for both the fuses and relays it contains. The other is a fuse panel under the dashboard on the driver's side. It cover lights and a few other items. The fuses are labeled, but the relays are NOT. One of the relays, controls the emergency hazard flashers. You need to check both places and replace any fuse that states HORN and the HORN relay, to be sure the problem goes away.
