Dodge stealth cranks no spark no check engine

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. There are a few things that you need to test and check. You need to check your plugs/coils, wires, distributor, coil packs, cam sensor and crank sensor. Check your timing belt/chain. Since there is no check engine light, you go in blind and you will have to check and test these parts, which some can be difficult. To perform the test, you will need a wiring schematic to test to see if any wires are without power. You will need to test these while the car is cranking. Check all electrical connectors and make sure all ground wires are grounded right. You need to check the wiring going from the parts listed to the ECU as well. You may be better off having your vehicle put on a diagnostic machine to pinpoint the cause. In most cases, it is electrical rather then the actual part.

1992 Dodge Stealth Starting Problem

It could be a problem that you can test quickly. You'll need someone to turn the ignition switch for you while the car is raised so that you have access to the starter. There is 1 small wire going to the solenoid from the ignition switch, it controls when the starter engages & is only supposed to light when the Ignition switch is in the start position. If when the key is in the start position you have voltage there, the switches are all working. By switches I mean the Ignition switch and one of these depending on the type you have.

There is a neutral safety switch on automatic trans. & a clutch safety switch on manual transmissions, but those are the only safegaurds betweeen the ignition switch and the solenoid.

While you're under the car, if the solenoid wire is getting power, test the bottom large lead going into the starter & see if it's got power. If so and the starter isn't turning, you either have a bad starter or some bad connections in the starting system.

Make sure the terminals and both post are clean & protected with a good coat of grease or vaseline. You should always remove the Neg.(-) cable to disconnect the power supply and prevent sparking or shorting while working on the wiring or charging the battery.

You would want to just check all of your connections next, even a bad ground wire going to the block could be causing the problem. I believe you will find a main ground and a minor ground wire on the transaxle assy, one specifically on a bellhousing bolt and those grounds need to have clean contact.

good luck.

Yup, the alarm module is usually located under the steering wheel in the dash (it splices into the ignition and wires in the steering wheel) thats where they would have removed the alarm module. Check for broken or unconnected wires under the drivers side dash under the steering wheel. loose broken wires should be able to see. make sure to feel for wires "tucked up in there." You can also try getting a new/used combination switch from parts department or junk yard (turn signal switch and/or hazard switch ) and seeing if replacing that works.

if your car is throwing the belt off it can only be one of two things. first you may have a bad pulley before you put the belt back on inspect all pulley make sure they are working properly then should not be any play in them. if all pulley check out the belt simply is not tight enough. you may need to adjust the automatic tensioner. is this car does not have auto tensioner auto zone can loan you a belt tightening tool. the belt when tight should not give more than a half inch when pressed from either side with your finger.
