Sounds like the anti-theft system isn't working. You might be able to get a bypass kit for your car. Check with an auto parts store.

How long since a tune-up? Check for applicable trouble codes. To check codes, yourself, at the least, you need an obd2 code reader.

I had a 1995 firebird 6spd. I ran Royal Purple oil in the trans, Nitrous..etc.. I beat on it a little but not much. The car sat outside since I owned it (15+yrs)..
One year I went out and I had the same problem.. If I pushed REALLY hard to the right it would go over - and then smooth as butter it would go UP into reverse.. Driving the car & warming up the trans did little..

>> I suspect it was the REVERSE LOCKOUT solenoid.. (I sold the car the next year)

Like the skip-shift solenoid works - I figured it was the Reverse Solenoid that had frozen up..

Never confirmed... But I know I never thrashed on it so bad as to bend something inside the trans..

Clutch worked great - so no issues with it binding while trying to engage gears.
You might remove the solenoid and see if it plunges in and out without power / using your hand to compress it in.. Also check the shifting while it is out...

If towing that far of a distance place the front wheels on a tow dolley and pull it from the front with the car in nuetral. That is entriley to far to be pull from the rear will mess up the steering linkages.

That's a big job that requires a lot of shop tools. You'll need at least a 2 ton floor press to get the bearing off the axle once you have it off the car. To get it off the car you'll need to take the cover off the rear end exposing the gears. Don't forget to put a drain pan under it before you remove the bolts. There is a screw that holds the horseshoe clamp on the end of the axle. You must remove this or the axle won't come out. Next, at the wheel end of the axle there are 4 bolts that hold the bearing cover on. Take them off and try pulling on the axle. If it won' come off , you'll need a puller to get it off. Using the floor press, support the bearing and push the axle off the bearing. Do the opposite to push the bearing on and reinstall everything.

remove the rear axle and the seal will be in the end of the axle housing. Pull it out -fit the new seal in the same way and refit the axle. For seals to leak it is an indication that the bearing is either shot or needs adjustment so check that out as well. Check that the diff bleeder at the top of the diff is clear and that the diff is not over full

There are 2. One in the fuel tank and the other underneath the left rear side of the car. it's an inline filter which does NOT go bad hardly ever.

More then likely in the fuel tank most autos are going to that configuration . Dont ask why they just did. But first look arond the frame where the fuel tank is you might get lucky.
