Cooling fans dont engage! 1998 oldsmobile silhouette!

Your Problem Can VERY WELL BE with the Temp Sensor, As It Is the First in This Electrucal Circut . it Waits for 210-230 Degree Engine temp and Gives that Sygnal to the ECM then ECM Grounds out the Cooling FAN RELAY To Turn ON the FANS and the Temp Sensor is Usualy THE #1 Culpret Closley in front of the RELAY.
There are 2 Sensors On this Vehicle The One You Replaced and One Located At Trans Side of
Engine Closer to Front of Vehicle At the Head ,Thereis a 2 wire Plug On it and This Sensor Goes to the ECT witch CONTROLS COOLING FAN RELAY. Hope this Helps and if you Need A Diagram For this It Must be Emailed as FixYa Does NOT Support Large Picture Files. My Email Add. Is MY

Shift lever cable

It certainly sounds like something has become disconnected between your gear shifter and the transmission. If your shifter is in the floor, just take the cover/housing off and check it out. It will probably be fairly difficult to see anything from underneath the vehicle. Hope this helps. God bless!

I went to change the thermostat. on 98 Olds Sillouet When I removed the throttle body I found oil and water in the upper intake manifold Also I did not find any water on the dipstick. Any ideas?

If your thermostat is sticking open, the vehicle never reaches operating temperature. Moisture in the engine is never vaporized and burned off. This is also normal if you only drive short distances. Take your vehicle for about an hour drive and the moisture should be gone.

1998 olds silhouette hard to start in cold weather

I suspect your car doesn't have a choke if it is EFI.I'd suspect a faulty coolant temp sensor unit, which is not telling the ECU that the engine is cold. Some EFI cars have an extra injector called a cold start injector. If fitted this could be faulty. In both the above cases there may be an ECU trouble code you can read out. In the US Autozone will do this for you.In the old days the classic cause of hard starting was always faulty engine timing. If your car has a timing belt and it is worn, it may have jumped a tooth or 2., but this is uncommon.

Is there a emergency fuel shut off switch in a 98 Oldsmobile silhouette,3.4

There isn't a shut-off switch for the fuel pump. Just curious, are you missing anything besides fuel? Engine cranking, you have spark at the plugs and fuel injector pulse? There is a fuel pump fuse and pump relay in the under hood fuse box.

My 98 silhouette gets smoke from thermostat area in town not on longer trips?

Hi J, Let's be sure of a couple of things first-off. 1) are you seeing smoke (from burning oil) or steam (from a possible coolant leak) near the thermo, which contains coolant? and 2) are you sure the condition isn't happening all the time, and when on "long trips," which I assume you mean, while driving faster on the freeway, and when in slower traffic, you can see it because there's not as much air flowing in the engine area due to lower vehicle speed? Do you see any coolant residue around the thermo, which could indicate a leak?

Oil Pan Gasket Replacement/ Oil Pan removal

yes the starter does have to be removed but also the engine mounts must be also as the engine must be raised about 10 " to get the pan out. if you do try this make sure you have very very sturdy jack stands for the engine to just a jack as the jack will lift it but wont maintain it long enough to safely remove the pan and reinstall it......good luck and be very carefull
