My car keeps giving me error P1603 - Battery Back up. I've had the ECU replaced, but the problem persists. Any tips for diagnosing or solving the problem?
There is a power supply to the ecu that is missing either permanantly or interrmitently, it may be as simple as a fuse, or it may have a bad connection in a loom plug or a broken wire...

I cant quite figure out how to get it all undone to change the headlight bulb
On either side of the headlight wiring assembly, in the engine compartment, you will find 2 small tabs. They are located to the sides and towards the bulb of the plastic assembly. Press these 2 tabs in while pulling the wire assembly out. Remove the rubber gasket and unhook the wire spring holding the bulb in place. The bulb come right out. The bulbs are halogen so do not handle the new bulb by the glass.

Hi,
I was driving on RTE 95 doing the speed limit (65) and cruising along with no problem when all of a sudden the car lost it's power and basically felt like it was in neutral.
I coasted to the side of the road, engine still running, and tried moving through the gears.... All gears the same, engine would rev when hitting the gas but there was nothing happening. It was like all gears were neutral.
It's a GTZ version Galant with 133K miles.
This is the first issue I have had with this car... any advice????
Could be a few things:
I hope this leads you in the right direction. Don't be afraid to post back with any questions. Best of luck.

galant dies when slowing down to stop
Here is the common cause of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

2002 mitsubishi galant, how to replace the starter
It's fairly easy, albeit a tight fit. Before you start, be sure to disconnect the battery. The starter is located between the firewall and the engine, underneath fuel injection assembly. Stick your hand in there and you should be able to feel how the starter is positioned. There are 2 or 3 bolts holding the starter and they're easy to remove. You need to disconnect the wire on the starter coil (the coil is located on top of the starter itself).
Now the fun part: removing the the starter itself. The way I did it is by wriggling it out the open space on the left side of the engine, hence the tight fit. Move any cables or wires that may get in the way for more room. (Important advice: Remember, patience is a virtue!)And there ya go! To install/re-install the starter just do the reverse. It's a lot easier to put it back in than removing it. Good luck!

how do I reset the service engine soon light on a 2001 Mitsubishi Gallant ES?
two ways you can do it. First it would be best to find someone with a code reader to find out what the code is ,some times aout parts stores will check the code for you and maybe even clear it for you.otherwise unhook one of your battery cables for a little while and the check engine light will go off untill what ever set it off sets it off again note unhooking the battery will clear your radio stations

The handle on the glove compartment to my 2001 Mitsubishi Galant broke off. I need to open the glove box to retrieve all the important papers but cannot do it now.
This happened in my '01 galant as well. If you take a peek under where the handle used to be, there's a little square nook with a spring and a little plastic tab. take a key and stick it right above the tab and press down, and the glove compartment should just pop right open. If it doesn't work, then it's probably just locked. Just unlock the door and try it again.

Replaced camshaft sensor, crankshaft sensor, balancer belt, timing belt and water pump and it still will not fire...help
If you have no spark then you need to track that down. The cam and crank sensors were worth changing but none of the rest of it will have any effect on it firing ( the timing belt will just make it fire at the correct time but won't cause it to not fire at all) you need 4 elements to have the engine run so check for each of these... 1 would be fuel. Check that you have the Correct fuel pressure, 2 would be air. Ensure that the air filter is not so clogged it can't breathe (not typical in the automotive world but it is possible) 3 would be compression in all the cylinders and 4 is spark to ignite it all. The other not so common thing to check is that there isn't something in your exhaust pipe or the pipes aren't bent keeping it from exhausting. Let me know if you have any other questions
