1999 Mitsubishi Montero Sport - Page 2 Questions & Answers
I HAVE NO REAR LIGTHS NORE BREAK LIGTHS NORE THE DASH BOARD
First check fuses. The parking lights and dash lights come on with the light switch, but have different fuses. if you have front lights( the switch is good), but no rear, check the grounds in the rear. They are usually mounted to the frame on the drivers side rear. As for the dash they have their own grounds. Places I know are at the steering column and behind the drivers side kick panel. You could also have problems at the plugs them selves, Corrosion. If you have no parking, brake, or reverse lights, it is a ground problem.
Montero Sport, Automatic transmission fluid change
Ok, Mobil atf is more of a universal fluid, where Mitsubishi atf would be specifically formulated to be used in their products. Personally I would use the Mitsubishi as it is brand specific, but you can use either one with more than likely no problems.
On a 99 Montero how do you get the calipers to resead back to get the pads on the roters onthe
LOL, I have had that problem.
Take the brake reservoir cap off and place rags around the reservoir because when you reseat the caliper it will reverse fill the container and brake fluid will overflow the container.
Now to enable the caliper to return, try cracking open the brake line bleeder at the caliper or the brake reservoir. Your going to have to bleed them anyways, so this will help release the pressure some. If that isn't enough, a pair of channel locks can grab on and just squeeze it back to home. remember the overflowing brake fluid also, lol or it could get a little messy.
What is the proper kind of transmission fluid for a transmission change?
Mitsubishi would love for you to use their oil, lololol. In reality, the proper oil is the oil rating needed. I usually use a good name brand oil and be sure it is that SPIII ATF I guess. I use Hypoid GL4 manual transmission oil which also can go into the rearend too if needed. If replacing the trany oil, be sure to dump the old oil and clean the magnet located on the drain bolt when you dump it. By the way, I use the oil I mentioned in an 86 Mitsubishi mighty max 5 speed. I use the 80-90wt. Might need to warm it up before pumping it into the tranny. Don't over or under fill the trany too.
