Hi!
Excellent description of your problem, I wish more were as articulate.
I thought at first it could be a glowplug fault but if you are experiencing problems when warm and noise from crank then it possibly is related to fuel.
You are either getting too much or not enough? have you replaced your fuel filter recently? also I hope inadvertently a mix of Petrol/gasoline hasn't taken place? finally your injectors seem to me to be the root of the problem.
O'k if it were me I would change fuel filter, also during this process I would purchase a fuel system cleaner, not one you mix in the tank but one where you fill the fuel filter.
Try it if a slight improvement you may need to do it again, if sorted use a fuel conditioner/cleaner in the tank regularly to maintain fuel efficiency.
I hope the information supplied FREE! sorts your problem? press the blue button please to rate my Efforts.
Thank You!

No heat when idling
Is the engine reaching normal operating temp now that you have changed the thermostat ?Is the radiator full of coolant ?Are the heater hoses getting hot ?
Overheating
I would recommend that you bleed all air out of the cooling system. The bleeder valve is located on top of the engine. Once engine starts to overheat or when you can hear bubbling back into the overflow bottle, turn car off and open bleeder valve. If you see bubbling you have air in your system. Bleed the system a couple of times and see if this helps.A heat sensor sending unit which controls activation of the electric fan could also have failed. But if the heat sensor is properly working then check the radiator cap is it properly fitted or got loose. If its loose it will release the pressure and car will overheat. But if the radiator cap is properly closed. Then its time to check the HEAD GASKET.As you have replaced the head gasket still get it checked is it overheating very quickly or is the head gasket placed properly also check the coolant level in the car.
Thanks. you can rate this solution and show your appreciation.
