BMW 316i 1997 Handbrake jumps back down when applied.
the rachet and lock on the handbrake handle itself is faulty and either needs 'loooking' at or replacing. leave the car in gear in addition to the handbrake to make sure ur car doesnt do a runner while u are waiting for repairs.

1st loossen up cable adjusters then remove rear wheels, remember safety 1st support car and through wheel stud hole you can turn adjuster star wheel with a small screwdriver till wheel locks then back off 4-6 clicks till wheel runs free next re adjust hand brake cable back up, again till wheels lock and again back of till free!
How do adjust my HandBrake , I have a BMW 316i
If you remove the rear wheels, through the bolt holes in the disc you should find a toothed wheel which needs to be turned with a screwdriver until the disc cannot be turned, then back off 6 teeth to prevent over adjustment and binding. (you can adjust the cables inside but this only takes up the slack and doesnt adjust the handbrake correctly) once they have been adjusted check the balance by driving gently forward and backwards whilst applying the handbarke and watching which side of the car reacts first then adjust the other side via the cable inside the car
Hi, x 2 warning lights came on tonight on my 2001
These lights indicate you have an ABS fault as the DSC needs to see a signal from the wheel speed sensors, One of the wheel speed sensors will have failed, find someone with a scanner to determine which one, then replace faulty sensor and reset light
My bmw 320 uses up the coolant in the radiator too
Sometimes theres a crack in the head and it just leeks out through the excust while driveing this can b a really same crack and u wouldnt notice any water leaveing but it can b serious in the long thrm.
Starting and rough idle
I had a very similar issue. Mine ended up being my "lower crankcase vent tube" It apparently had a hole in it that was causing oil to spew all over (and causing my valve cover gasket to leak as well due to a pressure issue). Got that replaced last Friday (my mechanic discovered it when he was replacing the belts I slung on Wednesday) and the car has started perfect ever since.
2001 bmw 325i changing spark plugs
it doesant sound like its a problem from your spark plugs sounds more like a stepper motor problem make sure you have fitted everthing correctly after you have changed spark plugs sensors ect if you needed to remove elctrical sensors
ALARM LIGHT ON THAT LOOKS LIKE A TRIANGLE WITH ARROW CIRCLING IT. WHAT DOES IT MEAN
On a 1998 3 series (E36) BMW, this indicator lamp is for the ASC+T = automatic stability control plus traction. It should go shortly after the ignition is switched on implying that the system is OK.
If the indicator lamp fails to go out after the engine is started, or comes on in the course of normal vehicle operation it means that the system has malfunctioned. The vehicle remains operational, but without ASC+T. You a have an 2001 3 series (E46), but I suspect the indicator lamp means the same as the E36 3 series. Look in owners manual under "indicator lamps"
Service ing light on
hello mariojimenez, you could have 1 of several components causing the misfiring and check engine light to come on. I would recommend getting the computer scanned to find out what fault code you have. A fault code would be even more helpful to narrow down the root cause.
Rear seatbelts jammed down backseats
hello tracieandmia, I am assuming that the seatbelt buckles are just underneath the seat. The rear seat bottem can be removed for access. If you reach under the front part of the seat bottem near each corner and lift up, the seat will release. You will need to give it a little yank and use a little force for it to release. Once each corner is released you can remove the seat bottem. To install the seat, slide it back under the seat back and push hard down on each front corner that you had previuosly pulled up at. You should hear a definite click/lock sound when the catches are locked.
I cannot turn the heat off, regardless of temp
hi daytona67, I would suspect the heater valve. If I remember correctly, the valve is located on the driver's side below the airbox. Once you find the valve, you can use a pair of hose pliers to clamp off the hoses and see if the heat stops. The valve is most likely internally broken. Since the auto-climate system sends a cut-off signal to water valve, I would suspect a failed valve before a faulty control unit.
