2006 Pontiac Solstice Questions & Answers
I just purchased a 2006 Pontiac solstice, it won’t pass smog because it is getting a PO 502 code which is the VSS. SPEED SENSOR. Anyway I looked online to find the location of it and supposedly it’s on the front of the tranny right hand side. I can’t find it anywhere. Does anyone happen to have any clue or direction to guide me to where the exact location is. I drove the car up onto ramps I purchased last year to work on my Subaru. So I can fit underneath fairly easily (I am woman 110 pounds). If someone could say something like. “See the exhaust with the 02 sensor, two inches left of that ...”. That would help me tremendously. What am I missing? This diagram I got offline, but what’s considered “the end of the trans mission”. When I’m under there it’s hard to make out what’s what. Do I need to remove the heat shield? Thank you in advance.
(Oh and I prefer to do my own work if I can. Cheaper and I know I will tighten the oil drain plug and not cross thread my spark plug in my head.. basically)
You have manual trans ?
Manual Transmission - Aisin AR5
Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List/Type
DTC P0502
DTC P0503
DTC P0833
Circuit Description
The vehicle speed sensor (VSS) assembly provides vehicle speed information to the engine control module (ECM). The VSS assembly is a permanent magnet generator. The VSS produces alternating current (AC) as the rotor teeth on the output shaft of the transmission, 2WD, or transfer case, 4WD, pass through the magnetic field of the sensor. The frequency and amplitude of the AC waveform increase as vehicle speed increases.
If the ECM detects no vehicle speed for a specified length of time, while other sensors indicate that the vehicle is moving, DTC P0502 sets. DTC P0502 is a type B DTC.
Diagnostic Aids
Ensure the VSS is correctly torqued to the transmission housing.

2006 solstice coded to replace camshaft actuator
More than likely you need to replace the cam phaser itself it only comes on do to lack of oil pressure to the motor ( like not changing your oil regular or running the car extremely low on oil)
Wont take gas
General advice:I understand as a no fuel condition1Immo condition,bad key,chip,antenna ring ignition barell 2Fuel pump related:bad fuse/relay,pump malfunction,cloged filter.3Fuel lines cloged/fuel breather/tank cap cloged (vacuuming the tank,must open to get air,then clean the breathers/cap)3Dumb guess:no gas in the tank(!?)Cheers,hope u deal it,share the solution.
NO HEAT BUT THE FAN WORKS
Is fan working? If not start with fuses. If you can get to motor check to see if voltage getting to it. If so it's the motor. If not then you have relays and the switch to check out.
How to change battery on pontiac solstice
Look at the owner's manual to find the location of the battery for routine checks. Buy a new battery first of the proper size and capacity to have it handy. Remove all the plastic bits you need to to get to the battery and remember where they go! Have a set of box end wrenches to remove the battery terminal cables and the battery hold down at the bottom, then slide the old battery out. Slide the new battery in and connect the cables... positive terminal first. (Do not be alarmed if the battery cable sparks once when connecting any cable, just don't jump and panic and touch something. ) BE CAREFUL NOT TO TOUCH THE TOOL OR YOUR HANDS AGAINST ANOTHER METAL SURFACE WHEN TAKING LOOSE THE TERMINALS as the current will flow from the tool through your hands to ground... you'll get a shock. Do not touch the terminals which your hands when moving any automotive battery. Wear proper shoes too! Do not open battery cell caps to check for corrosion or acid leaks out of curiosity (battery acid can blind you)... if you already have a new battery; turn the old one in for recycling credit usually $5.
