2005 Pontiac G6 Questions & Answers
2005 Pontiac G6 - intermittent start 3.5.
If introducing starting fluid (or any other flammable aerosol) into the intake manifold allows an engine to start and run when it previously would not, it is safe to say that the issue is with the fuel system. Using an alternative fuel source in this way bypasses the vehicle's fuel supply and fuel delivery systems. Think of the fuel supply system as the fuel pump and the fuel delivery system as the fuel injectors. The fuel pump takes fuel from the fuel tank and pushes it up to the fuel rail where it stops at the injectors. The injectors when actuated allow that fuel to enter the intake manifold. A failure in either system will result in no fuel injection. In my experience the most common fuel system failures that can cause a no-start condition are the fuel pump and fuel pump relay. Both can begin to fail intermittently towards the end of their life. Another important consideration specifically with this vehicle is the anti-theft/immobilizer system. The 2005 Pontiac G6 has a vehicle theft deterrent (VTD) system that will send a "fuel disable" message to the powertrain control module (PCM) if the transponder in the ignition key is not recognized. Why does my 2005 pontiac
9 QUARTS??? Dude! that transmission barely holds 9 quarts when it is totally empty! You are going to destroy some stuff and have fluid everywhere!
The transmission fluid level must be checked from under the vehicle. It is easiest on a lift, but if you can get the car up on jack stands or something, that will work, as long as the car is LEVEL. To check the fluid level, start and run the engine for several minutes to get the oil hot. Then remove the check plug located just below and forward of the right drive axle. (See picture below) The fluid should be level with the edge of the hole (or just barely running out) when it is full. (This is checked with the engine RUNNING)
For the harsh engagement problem, I would recommend checking your motor mounts, NOT adding fluid.

What's your problem? check gas cap light is on and i already replaced the cap
Take the vehicle to a qualified repair shop an have the EVAP system smoke tested , this will find the leak . Too many thing's that could cause your problem . You don't want to keep replacing parts do you ? Could be a stuck open purge solenoid , a leak in one of the vapor lines , the part the gas cap screws into, vent valve stuck open . Service engine light on ? have checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes . You'll probably fine a evap code for a large leak.
