On earlier charging systems that used a separate voltage regulator some used a separate unit to control the ignition light and this might be the trouble - check with a wiring diagram. If it is a an integrated regulator type the warning light wire connects directly to the alternator and all it does is ground the earthy side of the battery light through the rotor winding until the regulator begins to energise the rotor via the auxiliary diodes. With smart charging systems and probably with later CANbus systems the battery light is controlled by black boxes.

You most likely have a short to ground in the supply circuit. Work from the bulb socket backwards to the fuse. Check between the hot supply line to ground there should be not circuit when the fuse is out. If you find one at any point, the short is between the last 2 points you checked. As a visual inspection, look for any blackened metal around any of the contact points that will usually indicate a short.

For now you know the Dex-Cool ate the intake gaskets, so off with the intake There are newer gasket materials out for that issue & I would pick a different coolant If you read ALL the coolant bottle labels, you can find, in any store, they ALL are Dex-Cool chemicals There is no more old green coolant & NO one size fits all Prestone is just dex-cool & lots of non-sense on the labeling I would use Zerex G-05 even though it is for ford & chry & others Still have the same engine block, heads, heater parts, radiators, on all vehicles,so it won't hurt anything, if you use ONLY distilled water & coolant. Do a cylinder leak down test first, to confirm proper valve sealing & hopefully good head gaskets Going to need new oxygen sensors, once the repairs are made. I would pull the injectors & mail away for Ultra-Sonic Cleaning They are 16 plus years old & no other cleaning will do a thing. They are too old to use & not be tested & cleaned off vehicle

It's definitely the head gasket from what you described. If it is a v-8 like I think it is then its better that you replace both head gaskets or you'll be going back and doing the other one . If you need further help, reach me via phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/steven_a67ead41eb5fc62a

Your intake manifold may be cracked. It is plastic and is know to cracking. If you take a flash light and look behind the intake, you should see a small puddle of antifreeze or a slight crack. You will need to replace the intake manifold and the gasket, possible do a complete head job on the car since it is already leaking through. My bet is on a bad Oxygen sensor for the random misfire. Don't forget there are upstream and downstream Oxygen sensors. Check the Rock Auto site for prices. It looks like you can replace both for about $60.
